Bournemouth on Friday.
Take That on Saturday (and yes, they were brilliant).
Liverpool on Sunday.
A busy weekend, but one idea has stayed with me.
On Friday, I listened to a keynote speaker whose CV was ridiculous Special Forces, Everest in record time, and now running a business worth tens of millions.
The interesting part wasn’t the achievements.
It was the topic of standards.
No matter the environment, the standards stayed the same.
So what are standards?
They’re the things you do consistently, even when nobody is watching.
They’re the foundations.
The non negotiables.
The thing I’ve been thinking about since is this:
We often have high standards in one area and low standards in another.
You can build a successful business but neglect your health.
You can be disciplined in the gym but let your relationships drift.
You can be a great coach, parent, athlete or leader in one area while making excuses in another.
The biggest takeaway for me?
Standards aren’t the ceiling.
They’re the floor.
Everything else gets built on top of them.
Yesterday’s comp wasn’t about medals.
It was about having the standards to step on the mat in the first place.
So the question isn’t what are your goals.
The question is:
What are your standards?
See you on the mats. 🥋🤼
