Let’s revisit this shall we. ⁣

Supplements. ⁣

There’s still so many people getting it wrong, when it’s so simple. ⁣

𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐀⁣

These are supplements that have actual scientific evidence and proof that they work in helping your performance. ⁣

Creatine, caffeine and protein are the three supplements that if you aren’t taking, I’d recommend. ⁣

𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐁⁣

These are supplements that have some scientific evidence behind but not loads. BCAAs being the massive one that so many people will take, but probably don’t actually need to be taking it. ⁣

Unless you’re an athlete training 3x a day 6 days a week, you probably don’t need it so stop taking it. ⁣

𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐂⁣

These are the supplements that have very little evidence to back them up. ⁣

The likes of glutamine, again if you’re an athlete training 3x a day, then yes you may benefit from this. But the average Joe won’t, so stop wasting your time. ⁣

Let me know your thoughts.

Just a quick reminder...⁣⁣
⁣⁣
THIS is not what you use a bar pad for or “neck pad” what some people call it 🙄⁣⁣
⁣⁣
If you’re using a bar pad to perform a squat, then it is fundamentally in the wrong position. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
You also won’t be able to achieve very good squat depth either.
⁣⁣
If the bar hurts when performing a back squat then it’s in the wrong position, don’t use a bar pad. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It’s great for barbell hip thrusts, by preventing the bar from rubbing against your hips. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
However, there are two types of positions for the bar when performing a squat⁣⁣
⁣⁣
A high bar position - the bar sits on top of your traps and acts as a shelf of support. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Or a low bar position - the bar sits slightly lower, this allows you to lean forward into the squat, very good if you have poor ankle mobility. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
So PLEASE stop using it before I slap you round the head with it. ⁣⁣

Oh and one last thing, for the love of god don’t use it to squat on the smith machine, you’re only making it worse for yourself. ⁣
⁣⁣
Thanks. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣

Deep in thought in my office...⁣

But tell me if I’m wrong. ⁣

I think a lot of people are still pretty unmotivated, pretty unproductive and flatter than usually. ⁣

Which is rightly so considering WE’RE STILL IN A GLOBAL PANDEMIC. ⁣

Yes we aren’t in “lockdown” as such anymore, but it still isn’t normal. ⁣

Now a lot of people have adjusted to the circumstances pretty well, but a lot of people are still uneasy on something they can’t quite put their finger on. ⁣

Now I don’t believe that this is “the new normal” because it’s not, we’re just in a very rough year and we’ve had it pretty good leading up to this. ⁣

But no matter how unproductive you’re feeling, just sit back and ask yourself. ⁣

“Do I have enough to make myself happy?”⁣

Absolutely. ⁣

Going for a walk on the weekend with a few mates (no more than 6) 👀, spending time with my family and making the most out of this situation. ⁣

How you’re feeling is perfectly normal. That’s my point. We’re all going through it still. ⁣

You know what.

This year has been utterly s**t 🤣

From the death of Kobe and many other legends to covid, but that just goes to show you never know what can be around the corner.

You get people saying “this years a write off let’s just focus on next” and tbh they aren’t wrong BUT, why waste the rest of the year when you could build some solid foundations going into 2021 🤷🏻‍♂️

Don’t just throw the rest of the year out the window, take your time, be patient and work towards achieving greater goals for next year.

I’m not gonna lie this year has been dreadful for me personally a bloody rollercoaster, but rather than giving up, try and better youreelf each day by doing something YOU KNOW will put you in a better position tomorrow, the day after and the day after that.

Rather than doing a bench press and piling on the weight why not learn to bear crawl, learn to flip tyres rather than doing curls, instead of looking for a new squat PB you learn to lunge, shake up your training and try new things it won’t hurt your believe me.

Build this base foundation that will propel you forward.

Just wanted to rant a little that’s all 🤣

My goals..like many others should be similar for the end of this year 💪🏻 Now is not the time to be chasing PBs on a daily basis...more so focusing on building a solid foundation going into next year. Practising the simple and basic movements, building bulletproof shoulders by doing more mobility work and stretching 💥 building good hip mobility.. Take time, be patient with your training..and the results will come 🔱

Getting back to the gym⁣ 🤔

Now lets face it, its not gonna be easy coming back to the gym after being away for so long.⁣

Now the big question you're probably asking yourself is "I don't know where to start" 🤷🏻‍♂️

So here are a few tips on starting back training.⁣

1. Start small. Spend a few sessions figuring out where you're at now, you might be weaker yes, but it's about building back up slowly.⁣

2. Have some sort of structure. Have a plan when you go in the gym, what're you going to train? ⁣

3. Don't over train. So many people make the same mistake of over training, trying to get their fitness or strength back up as quickly as possible, if you do that, you're gonna injure yourself. So just be smart yeah.⁣

Be smart.

Don't rush into it, the process will be long but trust me, take your time, focus on what's important and you'll do just fine.

Okay so things are looking up after all 🙌🏻

With the announcement of gyms reopening on the 25th of July, which is the hallelujah we’ve all been waiting for.

I know most of you (me included) need to get back into shape after lockdown and more than likely you’ve put on a few pounds (again, like myself).

But who cares right.

You’ve been enjoying time off and more than likely taking a break from training.

So I will be taking bookings for PT sessions as soon as gyms reopen and hopefully nothing changes.

If you’re interested in getting back into shape after lockdown drop me a message 💪🏻

Josh.
