If this was my first time in the gym with no clue of where to start this is what I would do…

Because I bet you’ve stuck to the treadmill or played it safe in the quiet areas of the gym because of feeling conscious that people are watching you.

I get it because it’s what most women tell me before they start PT with me.

Build your programme to fit YOU.

Not a plan copied off the internet. Not something you got given and had to figure out on your own.

We sit down together and build it from scratch.

Your schedule, your goals, what you actually enjoy doing.

And here is the thing. When you have a say in building it, you are so much more likely to show up and do it.

No more standing around not knowing what to do next.

No more avoiding the weights area.

How often has your all or nothing mindset dragged you away from a routine?

It’ll be your constant downfall unless you understand this 👇

Instead of all or nothing what about all or something?

You don’t need to be perfect all the time (that’s all or nothing thinking)

You can have off days and weeks like in school holidays when getting to the gym is harder but still focus on stuff you can control like your nutrition (this is all or something thinking)

Which is the best thing for you right now because it keeps the momentum going rather than stopping altogether when life gets a bit more difficult.

Pick the minimum level of effort that’s needed to move you closer to your goals based on your current position and that’s how you overcome the all or nothing mindset.

Scale weight will destroy your mindset quicker than any other metric and here’s why 👇

You’re relying on a tool to measure every pound of what’s inside your body including your vital organs to show you how much fat you’ve lost.

What it doesn’t take into account is the water you’re holding onto before you’re due on right before the hormones start to do their thing.

To gain 1kg of fat, you’d need roughly 7,000+ excess calories over a weeks and months. The scales aren’t picking this up along with everything else it’s weighing.

To stop the scales destroying your mindset do this instead:

Notice differences in your clothes, the scale might not change the way you want it to but if your clothes are feeling looser and you’re more confident in them, you’re on the right track.

Can you see a difference in photos month on month say you’ve not lost any weight this month can you tell differences in your body shape from a photo while you’re out with friends and family?

The most important one of all how differently do you feel? Less stressed? A bit more in control? More energy in the school holidays with the kids? Or perhaps your mental health is in a better place?

You’ve got an abundance of wins to choose from to show you’re heading in the right direction.

So that next time you don’t rely on just the scales to show you how far you’ve come.

You can have terrible balance and still do this exercise.

Hold the TRX straps and row at the top of every rep. It sorts your balance out so you can actually feel it on your legs.
