☀️ Summer is Here – But Don’t Let Iced Coffees Derail Your Health Goals!
It’s been warm and sometimes sunny recently and the better weather is on its way this week and while that’s a great mood booster, for many, the daily caffeine hit is still non-negotiable.
At this time of year, iced coffees and frappés are everywhere...from classic cold brews to sugary dessert-style drinks in disguise.
We hate to sound like the fun police, but some of these drinks are packed with sugar, and it’s worth keeping an eye on them.
☕ Did you know?
Costa’s Blueberry Bubble Frappé contains 49.3g of sugar - that’s 12 teaspoons or the equivalent of 5 KitKats.
Starbucks’ Salted Caramel Cold Brew has 4.5 teaspoons of sugar.
That’s a lot of sugar for one drink and if it’s a regular habit, it can really impact your energy, sleep and weight.
We’re all about balance, so we’re not saying “never have one” but save them for an occasional treat, and opt for unsweetened cold brews or make your own at home for a healthier option.
☕ Pro Tip: Limit caffeine after 2pm to protect your sleep quality.
💧 Stay Hydrated Too
Don’t forget to drink plenty of water especially in the heat and if you’re having caffeine as it’s a diuretic which means it dehydrates you.
Here’s a simple rule:
➡️ Aim for a minimum of 2.3 litres a day - more if you weigh over 90kg
You need to consume this within the first 10hrs from waking up. This will work with your bodies natural circadian rhythm and utilise the water more efficiently plus reduce the need to get up in the night to go to the toilet.
✨ Pro Tip 2: Add a pinch of quality sea salt to your water to help replenish minerals lost through sweat and support better hydration.
Enjoy the sunshine and stay smart with your summer sips!
