It’s 6:30pm on a Thursday and you’re standing in front of the fridge trying to figure out what to eat 👀

You’re tired and you’ve already made a thousand decisions today … what to wear, what to say in that email, whether to reschedule the workout you missed. And now this is tipping you over the edge.

So you stand there, paralysed because one small decision about dinner feels impossible when you’re already at capacity

By the time you finally choose something, you’ve wasted time and energy you didn’t have to waste and then tomorrow comes and you’re doing it all again.

That’s what decision fatigue looks like and it’s the reason so many people give up on their fitness. Its not a lack of willpower, but exhaustion from making sooooo many choices every single day

That changes when you have a system.

You don’t have to make that choice anymore because you’ve already decided. Your workout times are set, your meals for the week are planned, and your week is mapped out

What people think is restrictive is actually the opposite. Having a system is the most freeing thing because suddenly you have mental space for the things that actually matter to you

If you’re tired of being drained by endless choices and ready to build something that actually works, message me “COACHING”

All too often, consistency is equated to every week going to plan. And every week going the same way, 52 weeks of the year.

So, I’m here to ask you the exact same thing I asked one of my clients last week:

“What are your expectations of yourself?”

Because if you only feel like you’re “doing well” or “on track” or “in control” when weeks go to plan … I’m sorry to disappoint you but life will always life, and if you get annoyed with yourself every time your week doesn’t go to plan, you’ll forever feel like your “failing” at this fitness stuff

I’ve seen it time and again with my clients …

Feels motivated > does all the things, things go to plan = Woo, yay - I can do this

Life throws a curveball or loses motivation > frustration at going “off track” = I’ve failed.

And a big part of the work we do together is unpicking mindsets like this

You see, actual consistency is continuing to show up in any capacity that works for you, not an unrealistic version of perfection you have about yourself

When a week goes to plan, great - do your thing

When it doesn’t - do what you can, and don’t give yourself a hard time about it

As we head into the summer holidays, give yourself permission to do things differently …

Work with your actual capacity
Reduce the number of workouts
Do the shorter workouts or the ones at home

Do what works for you, and don’t be afraid to pivot. (And if every time you hear PIVOT, all you hear is Ross from friends - you’re my kind of people 😂)

My client worried that one missed workout meant she was losing control

She messaged me: “I missed my workout yesterday and this morning too. I’m scared I’m losing all control with the food and exercise.”

And I heard what was underneath: when things go to plan, she feels in control. When they don’t, she feels completely out of control.

Classic all-or-nothing thinking.

So I asked her if that felt familiar? Had it always been that way?

And her answer was yes. She recognised it as all-or-nothing thinking.

But knowing that, and knowing what your next steps are two very different things

So I reminded her of what she’s already proven - in the time we’ve been working together, there have been so many times she could have quit because things didn’t go to plan, like illness, work trips, unexpected chaos. But she didn’t quit. She got back to it every time, even when it wasn’t easy. She did the hard thing.

One missed workout doesn’t erase that. One off day doesn’t mean she’s lost control of everything.

So I gave her an affirmation to sit with: “Even if things don’t go to plan, I trust myself to get back to my normal routine”

She got to the gym this morning. And she felt great.

That’s the shift. From needing everything to go to plan to trusting herself to get back on track when it doesn’t.

If you’re stuck in the all-or-nothing cycle and ready to learn to trust yourself instead, message me “COACHING”
