For this member spotlight we feature Wayne, our resident Hyrox superstar.

- What has changed about your training since you’ve joined a running club?

"I’ve definitely started to run more; the speed sessions helped tremendously and I’m enjoying racing again."

- What motivated you to get into Hyrox initially?

"It started with the owner of the gym I go to, Stu Matthews.
I was competing in CrossFit but was picking up too many injuries. Stu talked me into doing a HYROX doubles with him in London, so it grew from that."

- What is something a runner could learn from a Hyrox athlete and what could a HYROX athlete learn from a runner?

"That’s a difficult one, I think Hyrox has taught me about running when fatigued and quick recovery whereas running has taught me more about pacing and given me more of an engine."

- Any tips for anyone starting their Hyrox journey?

"Yes - don’t give up. Coming off a station into a run can be soul destroying at first, especially the sled push and burpee broad jumps, but it does get (slightly) to deal with."

- What do you most enjoy about CrossFit?

"Probably the strength side of it, but my shoulders say differently😂"

- What does a Hyrox champ eat pre race?

"The night before would be pizza. The morning of would be Rice Crispies then two rounds of bread with honey."

- Best way to deal with pre race nerves?

"I always get nervous but I try to get to the race early and chill, tell myself all the prep's been done and stick to the game plan."

- What do you think of to help push through when I’m in the pain cave?

"That’s a good question, probably the thought of sinking a few pints after 😂.
Seriously, I’m so competitive so tell myself that all the training can’t go to waste so move yourself!
Also my first ever marathon training taught me a lot about not giving up."

- Favourite music to train to?

"Funky House vocal."

20.06.26 - Malvern Midsummer Marathon. What a team. 15miler and 27 miler (30 if you check their Strava). On a warm, muggy Saturday a group of Beaumonters took to the hills (and another and another). What we can say .. don’t trust our navigation skills. 💚💚
