Why music is so important to me and my classes🎶🖤
Music has always been such a huge part of my life, and it’s the foundation of every class I teach. Whether you come to Pilates, Spin, Aqua, or any of my classes, music is always at the heart of it.
When I was younger, I used to sing (although you probably wouldn’t think that now! 😅). You may have heard me belt out a few notes here and there, especially in my Spin classes!
Garage music will always have my heart—it takes me straight back to my many summers in Cyprus and so many amazing memories. So it was really nice this weekend to be at a live event and prove that I do actually stop working and let my hair down sometimes!
Starting my teaching journey with my Exercise to Music qualification over ten years ago only deepened my love for music. Now I hear music completely differently. I listen to the rhythm, the tempo, the energy, and how it can be used to build and develop a class.
The very first thing I do when creating a class is build the playlist. Then I start creating the movements around the music and piecing everything together.
Does this track suit the movement? Does it create the right energy and emotion for what we’re doing? Can we use the beat to build intensity and momentum?
These are all things that go through my mind when planning.
Because for me, music changes everything. It has the ability to change your mood, influence your emotions, and, in class, help you challenge yourself, switch off from the outside world, and completely lose yourself in the moment. 💗🎶✨
