Leicester Underwater Exploration Club - LUEC

Leicester Underwater Exploration Club - LUEC Leicester's biggest and best Scuba Club offering Scuba training and dive trips throughout the year. (now MDE). Training had taken place at St.

Leicester Underwater Exploration Club (LUEC) was formed in 1958 by a small group of enthusiastic people who had discovered the new sport of SCUBA diving. Over the years the membership has changed somewhat but we retain some very long standing members. One of the earlier members was a director of the Midland Diving Company Ltd. The club remained independent at first, until eventually in 1967 it joined the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) and became Branch No. 0321. Around this time underwater films were beginning to be shown on TV and this caused an upsurge in interest which boosted membership to around 120. Membership stayed around this mark rising to around 150 in 1976 where it stayed until the mid-1990's. Margarets Baths in Leicester until 1987 when the centre closed for refurbishment and new facilities were found for the club at Aylestone Leisure Centre until works were completed the following year. LUEC remained at St. Margarets until its close and subsequent demolition in 2001 when training was transferred back to Ayleston Leisure Centre and we remain there to this day.

There have been BIG smiles at the Cove this morning as LUEC secretary and the lady behind most of our social media posts Kirsty Pope has finally been able to get back into the water after 14 months dry side.

It's been a long journey for Kirsty to get to this point. But with a lot of patience, determination and the oversight of expert Dr Mark Turner she's safely, and happily spent her first 38 minutes underwater on the 6m shelf 🎉🤿👌🏼

I for one, can't wait to get back in the water with her. She's a true inspiration and a highly valued member of our Club.

Great club night today! The pool was busy with trydivers, our club divers getting some pool practice in, our always busy snorkel instructors teaching key snorkel skills, and people enjoying a swim!
All followed by club night upstairs brainstorming for future charity events and excited last minute prep for the club Scapa Flow weekend that departs this weekend 🤿

To round off the week, more of our club headed across to Weybourne to attempt to dive this weekend, however as you can see the conditions weren’t exactly great for it. Well done Helen & Carl for going out today however the vis was poor and the current strong so diving was aborted for the day.
Still a good weekend with good friends was had by all 🤿🖤

What a week last week! On Monday 9 of us trekked on down to Teignmouth for a few days diving out of Teignmouth.
Not having a tender to get out to Vixen didn’t deter us with our plucky Captain Simon and Boathand Kirsty swimming out (or persuading other boaty folk to give a lift), and there were 3 days of good diving.
Including two dive sites with a plethora of scallops making for very luxurious club dinners back at the lodges (cooked perfectly by Andy J and Katherine)!

Last weekend we took advantage of the most excellent weather with a social at Diverstime Scuba Diving Centre

Snorkellers, divers and shore lovers alike within the club alongside friends and family came along for a lovely day of barbecue, water and friendship 🤿☀️

Thanks to Scoobs and the guys at Spring Lakes for a great day.
