🪢🌿 WHEN IS A KNOT NOT A KNOT? 🌿

When it’s the WRONG knot for the job! 😂

Friday Home Ed was all about getting tangled up in learning as we discovered that choosing the right knot really matters.

🪢 From securing loads to building structures, every knot has a job to do!
But we didn’t stop there… 👀
🏕️ We practised lashings
🗼 Built and secured our very own pioneering watch towers
🛶 And got stuck into raft building!

There was plenty of problem-solving, teamwork, testing, tweaking… and the occasional “WHO TIED THAT?!” 🤣
Because outdoor learning isn’t just about knowing how to tie a knot — it’s about understanding why, working together and figuring things out when your first attempt doesn’t quite go to plan.

Who knew getting tied up in knots could be so much fun?! 💚🌿

🌿🔥 MONDAY FAMILY BUSHCRAFT IS BACK! 🔥🌿
Starting Monday 14th September, join us every other Monday10am -12 for curiosity-led outdoor learning at LOPC! 🌳
Each session is different, with new things to discover, skills to try and plenty of opportunities to play, explore, get creative and learn outdoors.

🔥🏠 CAN WE TRAVEL BACK TO 2ND SEPTEMBER 1666? 🏠🔥

Yesterday, we did exactly that!

Our London’s Burning Home Education day took us back 360 years to the Great Fire of London — but we didn’t just read about history…

We smelt it. We felt it. We tested it. 🔥👃👐
We explored how the fire started and why it spread so quickly through the narrow, wooden streets of London. The young people built their own houses and then experienced just how quickly fire could travel from one building to the next.

We looked at how the fire changed London and became escape planners, thinking about how people could have fled the flames.

And where better to plan an escape by water than the River Soar? 🛶🌊

After getting back and drying off, we stepped into the world of Samuel Pepys, using homemade bread and his diary to bring the sights, smells and experiences of 1666 to life.

History wasn't something we simply learned about today.
We stepped into it. 🔥

Because sometimes the best way to learn is to experience it for yourself. 🌿🛶

Step back in time and discover one of the most dramatic events in London’s history! 🏙️🔥

Come and join us for an exciting, hands-on day of learning as we explore:
🔥 What started the Great Fire of London?
🏘️ How did it affect the people and the city?
🏗️ What was the plan to rebuild London?
🗺️ How did London change after the fire?

Through investigation, discussion, activities and practical learning, we’ll bring history to life and encourage young people to question, explore and discover.
