Lady Captain’s Day for Ladies – 9th June 2026
What a wonderful day we shared on Lady Captain’s Day for Ladies. I am delighted to say that everything ran seamlessly from start to finish, and I could not have wished for a better occasion.
The day began early, with our first two ladies teeing off before 9.00am. Mixed weather conditions had been forecast, so I spent much of the morning with my fingers crossed. True to form, however, the ladies of Leek Golf Club showed great resilience as waterproofs went on, then off, and then back on again!
As more ladies arrived at the club, there was a real sense of excitement and anticipation in the air. Rain or shine, I knew it was going to be a special day.
As always, once the competition is over, there is great anticipation as scorecards are returned and everyone wonders who may be in line for a prize. In my eyes, every lady who took part was a winner, although sadly no one managed to achieve a hole-in-one.

My captaincy year would not be what it is without the tremendous support and hard work from Gill Armstrong, who works tirelessly behind the scenes. Thank you so very much.
Thank you also to all the ladies who offered their support, encouragement, assistance and advice both before and during the day. Your kindness and willingness to help meant so much to me and played a huge part in ensuring everything ran so smoothly.
A special thank you to Lynne Ball for helping to clean and prepare the halfway house, and to Mary Allen, who joined me in welcoming players and serving cakes and refreshments throughout the day.
My thanks also go to Jenny Cordon for teeing off early so that she could return to assist with checking the scorecards, to Greg Rogula for his help with the Nearest the Pin equipment and its distribution, and to Chris Birch for kindly writing and delivering Grace before our meal.
I would also like to thank Bailey’s for transforming the dining area so beautifully and for providing a fantastic selection of delicious food. The presentation, quality and service were exceptional and helped make the day feel truly special.
To the Greens Team, thank you for presenting the course in such outstanding condition. The many compliments received throughout the day were thoroughly deserved, and we are fortunate to enjoy such a wonderful course.
Days like this remind us how lucky we are to be part of such a supportive and welcoming club. The teamwork, friendship and dedication shown by so many people made me incredibly proud.
It is a privilege to serve as Lady Captain, and days like this make me especially proud to be a member of Leek Golf Club.
Thank you all for helping to create such special memories.
