Breaks Fall Short in Entertaining 3-2 Defeat to Wolstanton
Breaks were left frustrated after a 3-2 defeat against Wolstanton, despite playing some excellent football for large periods of the game and creating more than enough chances to take something from the match.
Breaks started brightly and took the lead after 25 minutes. Logan picked up the ball around 25 yards from goal hit with power creating a wobble and found the back of the net to put Breaks 1-0 up.
Wolstanton responded with a corner that was hit long, allowing them to find a headed finish at the back post and level the game at 1-1.
Half-time: Breaks 1-1 Wolstanton
The second half saw Breaks continue to play some very good football, with the team breaking forward and putting Wolstanton under plenty of pressure. However, it was Wolstanton who struck next, hitting Breaks on the counter-attack following a Breaks corner. A ball over the top led to a clinical finish — their second shot on target of the game — putting them 2-1 ahead.
Breaks continued to dominate the football and were creating plenty, but another unfortunate moment saw Wolstanton extend their lead. A clearance from their midfielder was sent over the top, and although Andy had clearly got to the ball first, his clearance went straight back to a Wolstanton midfielder. With time and space to pick his spot, he finished into an open goal to make it 3-1.
With 22 minutes remaining, Breaks had to chase the game, but they never stopped playing their football. The pressure continued, with Breaks hitting the crossbar multiple times and forcing corner after corner. The chances were coming, but frustratingly, the ball just would not find the back of the net.
Then, with just two minutes remaining, Harry Poole produced a lovely diagonal ball across the pitch to find Logan. Logan beat the goalkeeper to the ball and calmly slotted it into the goal, for his second of the afternoon and give Breaks hope at 3-2.
Despite a late push, there was not enough time left to find an equaliser, and Breaks ultimately fell to a narrow 3-2 defeat.
The result will undoubtedly feel harsh given the quality of football played and the number of chances created. Breaks hit the woodwork, won numerous corners and continued to attack right until the final whistle. On another day, the chances would have gone in and the result could have been very different.
