Ball Haye Green 5-1 Leek Town

Another day of learning for the young lads. Credit to BHG and all the best to them for the rest of the season, a top side which we held our own against in parts and showed some great play going forward but again our mistakes cost us and gifted them their first 2 goals. plenty of work in that respect to do.

Leek Town 0-3 Milton Utd

From the highs of winning 2 on the bounce Friday night we were brought right back down to earth with a humbling deafeat to our friends from Milton.
We started the game really well exactly as planned but for some reason we actually thought we’d won the game after 20 minutes without even scoring a goal. Milton capitalised on a mistake to make it 0-1 and from then we couldn’t do enough for them to get further ahead which they did just before the break 0-2.

Few changes were made at half time and we started as we did the first half, kept applying the pressure but looking back I don’t think we would have scored if we’d have played until midnight it was just one of those games with their keeper being the busier of the 2 but Quinny having to pick the ball out of the net for a 3rd time in the second half.

The game was pretty much Deja Vu of the away fixture last season, us not being able to hold the ball up front and Milton punishing us for each mistake, they had a plan and executed it with perfection so hats off and full credit to them, we will learn from this there’s no doubt about it, onto the next one we go, last seasons champions Ball Haye Green on 26th September!

Apologies for the lack of match updates it’s been a tough start for our young lads but they have shown enormous character and some score lines don’t reflect our performances but that’s football and if anything we have learnt a lot over our opening fixtures, the hard work the lads have put in has definitely paid off the last 2 fixtures and if that’s the shape of things to come we will be in for a good season. Il be back on top of the match reports after our game this coming Friday but for now here’s how our season started.

Brererton 3-1 Leek Town.

Blues suffer opening day defeat to promotion chasing Brererton.

One of the toughest away days in the calendar but a game we can come away from feeling massively proud of the performance with the score line not a true reflection of how well we played.
We started with 5 lads in their first competitive game for us and 5 lads just turning 17 years old but that didn’t stop us from taking the lead when Will stanyer got onto a mistake from their keeper and slotted the ball home.
Stanners should have had another minutes later but their keeper pulled of a great save.
Brererton did what they always do long balls from the back out to the wings and kept some pressure on us but in reality their goal was extremely scrappy none the less we went in to half time 1-1
They kept the pressure on us in the second half and injuries played a massive part for us with all but one substitution being forced.
We come away from the game with a sense of togetherness and a feeling that we are going in the right direction after a pre season of rebuilding and uncertainty, there were some big performances yesterday and everyone involved gave 100% holidays and injuries won’t be an issue over the coming weeks and if we can keep the same work rate and attitude as we did yesterday then we will be a strong side in the league this season 💪🏻
