Absolute top man โค๏ธ
Thank you for your service Craigโค๏ธ
After 26 years I have to hang up my football referee whistle and pack my shirt away due to a diagnosis of osteoporosis in my hip with moderate to severe cartlidge damage
So rather than a sympathy vote I wanted to say an appreciation to all the players, managers and fellow refs I've met over the years
Years of running half marathons, reffing most weekends and multiple games along with some monster walks especially over COVID, my PB of 34 miles in one day ๐คฃ I guess things wear out.. never mind least I'll have my weekends free for walking to continue
Met some lovely people, some not so๐คฃ that's football.. been appreciated by many and upset a few.. I was only doing my job๐
And finally good luck to all the young refs coming through via Staffs FA I would say this..
Show up in your right gear, look the part, be fit, be courageous and stick to your decision... Don't take any **** get your cards out of necessary and be brave, but most of all ...stick at it , it's a tough job and you had the guts to get your badge, never forget that
Never know if I get a new hip.. I may be back.. we'll see ๐ฆต
Here's to the beautiful game โฝโค๏ธ
I secretly loved every minute despite over the past few months not being able to walk after a game for 3 days ๐คฃโฝ
In the words of the great Vinnie Jones
It's been emotional
Over and out... For now ๐คฃ๐ท
