Leeds Community Veterans is a volunteer-led community group that supports men, particularly from ethnic minority backgrounds within Leeds. Our mission is to promote physical health, mental wellbeing, and social inclusion through regular football and fitness activities. We recognised a need within the community for a safe, welcoming space where men—especially those who may face barriers to mainstre
am sports or social engagement—can connect, stay active, and improve their wellbeing. Since Febrary 2024, we have been organising weekly football sessions at Pepper Road Field in Leeds, which have steadily grown in participation and community impact. Our activities focus not only on physical exercise but also on building friendships, teamwork, and a sense of belonging. Many of our members use these sessions as an opportunity to relieve stress, improve fitness, and form positive connections with others who share similar backgrounds and experiences. Through these informal yet structured activities, we help reduce social isolation and promote healthier lifestyles among men who might otherwise lack access to such outlets. As a not-for-profit organisation, we are entirely volunteer-run and rely on local partnerships, small grants, and community support to continue our work. Our events are open to all, and we welcome collaboration with other community groups, organisations, and local authorities who share our vision of an active, connected, and inclusive Leeds. In addition to our weekly sessions, we host friendly community football matches and local engagement events that bring together players, families, and residents. These occasions celebrate community spirit, promote cultural understanding, and strengthen ties between different groups across Leeds and worldwide. Our goal is to continue growing as a trusted community hub that supports men’s health, encourages participation, and fosters unity through sport and shared activity.
