Thomas Mist, better known as Big T, has been in outstanding form recently, crossing for tries in both of our latest victories. A real powerhouse in the middle, Thomas is one of the leaders of our U18s squad, always willing to put in the hard yards and never taking a backward step when the game gets tough.

His commitment, work ethic and determination have seen him pick up several Player of the Match awards this season, alongside adding a number of well-deserved tries to his tally.

A huge thank you goes to Go Local Extra – Austin Road Stores for sponsoring Big T this year. Support from local businesses like theirs plays a vital role in helping our young players develop both on and off the field.

⚫️⚪️Keighley Cougars 0 – 44 Bronte Barbarians Ladies⚫️⚪️

Bronte Barbarians Ladies made the trip to Keighley and produced another outstanding team performance, securing a convincing 44-0 victory to maintain their perfect start to the season and make it four wins from four.

Facing a patched-up Keighley side that included 11 Sheffield Eagles players, Bronte arrived with a simple game plan – complete their attacking sets, complete their defensive sets and stay patient. The ladies executed that plan superbly from start to finish.

With no recognised half-backs available and several key players missing, Bronte were forced to reshuffle. Kaya Laing and Maisie Reid stepped into unfamiliar roles and both excelled, controlling the game brilliantly and directing the team around the field with confidence and composure.

Captain Paige Stevens led by example with a dominant display. Her defensive work was relentless, producing a series of punishing tackles while carrying strongly throughout the contest. Paige’s efforts were rewarded with a superb hat-trick of tries in a player-of-the-match performance.

Rochelle Liddle was outstanding after moving into the loose-forward role. Her defensive work was faultless and she helped keep the ruck speed high throughout the game. Rochelle was rewarded for her efforts with a well-taken try that kept the scoreboard moving in Bronte’s favour.

Mackenzie Ellis (sponsored by Hayley’s Raffles) enjoyed an excellent game from ho**er, providing quality service from dummy-half and keeping her forwards on the front foot. Her hard work was rewarded with a deserved try.

Katie Milner (sponsored by JMH Metalworks & Mechanics) worked tirelessly on her edge, running some superb lines and eventually crossing for a well-earned try after troubling the Keighley defence all afternoon.

Harriet Hirst kept herself busy whenever called upon and made a strong impact after returning to the field, scoring a deserved try. Maisie Reid capped off a hardworking performance with a clever show-and-go effort, reading the defence perfectly before crossing the whitewash.

Caitlin Barker was accurate with the boot, successfully converting six of Bronte’s eight tries.

Coaches Comments

Tony Tonks:

“I was really happy with the women’s efforts today. Seeing 11 Sheffield players join the Keighley ranks, alongside several key players missing from our own squad, forced us to shuffle things around in a number of positions.

“It just shows that no matter what you throw at this team, they turn up, do their jobs and do them well. Captain Paige Stevens was brilliant and led from the front with a perfect performance. Maisie Reid and Kaya Laing both played out of position but kept the momentum going and guided the squad in the right direction throughout.”

A huge thank you to everyone who travelled and supported the women today. Another two competition points secured and the ladies continue their excellent start to the campaign with four wins from four.

⚫️⚪️Bronte Barbarians U18s 38 – 10 Moorends ARLFC⚫️⚪️

Bronte Barbarians U18s produced another impressive performance, running out deserved 38-10 winners against Moorends ARLFC.

The lads started the game brilliantly, focusing on completing their opening sets and keeping the visitors pinned in their own half. The early pressure soon paid off with a well worked move that saw Zac Marshall create space and provide a fantastic try assist for winger Mason Bentley to cross in the corner.

Ethan Train, sponsored by J&M Laundry, added the conversion before later getting on the scoresheet himself, crossing from ho**er for a well deserved try after another strong display through the middle.

Big prop Rylee Wilks showed his strength and determination, powering over for two tries, while Thomas Mist, sponsored by Go Local Extra – Austin Road Stores, was rewarded for a tireless performance with a try of his own.

Elliot Vaux was next to cross the whitewash after an energetic display that helped keep the Barbarians on the front foot throughout the game. Harrison Tonks, sponsored by Do Not Bend Supplies, returned to the field after a well earned breather and rounded off the scoring with the final try of the afternoon.

Despite the scoreline, Moorends never stopped competing and continued to ask questions of the Barbarians’ defence. Their two tries were well taken and reflected the effort they showed throughout the contest.

Coaches’ Comments

“It was great to see the lads enjoying themselves today.

“It was pleasing to see them build on last week’s performance. Zac was everywhere on the field and was unfortunate not to get over for a try himself. Elliot Vaux was excellent in the middle, bringing plenty of energy and deserved his try.

“The most pleasing thing for me was seeing all the lads smiling at the end. Rugby is a tough sport, and to see 17 and 18-year-olds enjoying themselves and playing with smiles on their faces is what it’s all about.”

🏉 U14s Match Report🏉

⚫️⚪️Bronte 14 – 18 Elland arlfc ⚫️⚪️

Bronte went into the game unbeaten in the league and full of confidence, but they knew they would face a stern test against a strong Elland side.

The home side made the perfect start. From the kick-off, an excellent chase forced an Elland knock-on, and Bronte quickly capitalised. Caden pounced on the loose ball to score out wide, although the conversion drifted wide.

Bronte continued to apply pressure and soon doubled their advantage. Receiving the ball from the restart, a well-worked move saw Elliot crash over near the posts, with Caden adding the extras to give Bronte a deserved 10-0 lead.

However, a spell of ill-discipline allowed Elland back into the contest. The visitors took advantage of their opportunities, crossing for two tries before the break to narrow the deficit and leave the score at 10-8 heading into half-time.

The second half was a real arm wrestle, with both sides battling fiercely for control. Defences were on top, and neither team was willing to give an inch. The turning point came when Bronte were reduced to 12 players following a sin-bin for a high tackle, allowing Elland to edge ahead 12-10 with just 10 minutes remaining.

To their credit, Bronte responded brilliantly. Showing great determination, they worked the ball wide and scored a superb try in the corner to regain the lead at 14-12 with seven minutes left on the clock.

But the drama was not over. A second sin-bin proved costly, and Elland took advantage of the extra space to score late and sn**ch an 18-14 victory, breaking Bronte hearts in the process.

Despite the disappointment, there were plenty of positives to take from a fiercely contested encounter.

Coach Ady said:

“It was a real arm wrestle of a game, and one that we were dragged into by our own ill-discipline, which has cost us two valuable points.

The lads are hurting, but we’ll regroup, come together, and go again next week to put things right.

I’m proud of my lads, like I always am, and we’ll be ready to go again next week.”

Bronte’s unbeaten league run may have come to an end, but the character and fight shown throughout the match will stand them in good stead for the challenges ahead. 💪🏉

Batley Boys ARLFC 26 – 0 Bronte U13s

Our U13s travelled to Batley Boys ARLFC but came away second best, falling to a 26-0 defeat.

It was a tough day at the office for our lads, who never quite managed to get going and struggled to transfer the hard work they've been putting in on the training field into the match. Batley were well-drilled throughout, sticking to their systems and capitalising on opportunities when they came.

Despite the result, there were still positives to take from the game. Coaches Mikey and Cameron were particularly pleased with the continued development of the club's new recruits, who are making great improvements week after week and growing in confidence with every game.

Reflecting on the performance, the coaches felt the team struggled in key areas, particularly leadership, completion rates, and defending errors. Too many sets went unfinished, and mistakes were punished by a strong Batley side.

Coaches' Comments

"It was disappointing because the lads are ripping into training and working really hard. We didn't complete enough sets and didn't defend our mistakes well enough, but these are things we can work on. We'll dust ourselves down, get back on the training field, and focus on improving those areas."

A big thank you to all our volunteers, parents, and sponsors for their continued support of the team. Your encouragement means a lot to the players and coaching staff.

Attention now turns to next week, when we welcome Knottingley Mustangs to home soil. The lads will be determined to put in a strong performance and show the progress they're making.

On to next week! 👍🏉

First Festival of the Season

Coaches Paul and Thomas would like to thank the coaches and players from the visiting clubs for making the journey to Bronte Barbarians and helping create a fantastic first festival of the season.

The Bronte Barbarians U7s enjoyed an exciting and action-packed first festival of the season, showcasing everything that makes junior rugby league so enjoyable. Across three games, the team demonstrated excellent defence, determined attacking play, resilience under pressure, and a fantastic team spirit. There were plenty of scoring opportunities, moments of great teamwork, and valuable lessons learned against strong opposition. Most importantly, every player contributed, worked hard for their teammates, and represented the club with pride.

For any new players thinking about giving rugby league a try, Bronte Barbarians is a welcoming and supportive environment where children can develop their skills, build confidence, make new friends, and most importantly, have fun. With enthusiastic coaches, great teammates, and plenty of opportunities to learn and improve, it's a fantastic club to be part of.

There were plenty of encouraging performances across the festival, with several players getting on the scoresheet and everyone contributing to the team's efforts. The coaches were pleased with all the kids playing with smiles on faces.

⚫️⚪️Wigan St Pats 10 – 48 Bronte Barbarians U13’s Girls ⚫️⚪️

Bronte Barbarians U13’s Girls continued their unbeaten start to the season with an impressive away victory over Wigan St Pats, making it four wins from four.

After making the trip to Wigan for their latest fixture, Bronte kicked off the game but quickly gained possession thanks to some outstanding defensive pressure that forced an early error from the hosts. From there, the visitors took control, crossing for four unanswered tries in the opening ten minutes to establish a commanding lead.

Despite agreeing to alternate kick-offs throughout the game, Bronte maintained their dominance on both sides of the ball. Their strong defence and clinical attacking play ensured they remained firmly in control, taking a healthy advantage into the halftime break.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Bronte continuing to move the ball confidently and add further scores. One of the standout moments of the game came from the Bronte ho**er, who produced a brilliant long-range try to cap another impressive attacking display.

Credit to Wigan St Pats, who continued to battle throughout and showed some excellent skill and determination. Their efforts were rewarded with two late tries in the closing stages, but they proved to be consolation scores as Bronte completed another comprehensive victory.

Coach Gav said:
“Today was about testing the team’s character as much as their rugby ability. There was plenty for the girls to deal with before the game, including an early start and a long journey, and I wanted to see how they would respond to those challenges.

“The way they handled everything was excellent. After three straight wins, it would have been easy to become comfortable, but the girls approached the game with the same attitude and commitment they have shown all season. Based on the progress they have made over the last few weeks, it will come as no surprise to see them come away with another victory.

“There are still areas we can continue to develop, but I am incredibly proud of every player today.”

Thank you to everyone who made the journey to support the girls, and to Wigan St Pats for their hospitality and hosting an enjoyable game. 🏉🤍🖤
