Bronte Barbarians ARLFC Amateur Rugby League team from Normanton, West Yorkshire, who play their games at Castleford Rugby Union.

🏉Bronte 34 - Crossfields 16🏉

Another 2 points on the table!

Our Women’s team did it the hard way this weekend, travelling with just 14 players available due to work commitments, illness and holidays.

But once again, the ladies showed exactly what this group is made of.

They travelled with adversity against them and got the job done, coming away with another valuable 2 points on the table. Every player put in a huge shift and played their part in what was a brilliant team performance.

There were some outstanding individual performances too.

⭐ Kaya Laing was exceptional, getting over the try line,putting in massive minutes for the team.

⭐ Captain Paige Stevens led from the front, putting in another huge performance and showing exactly what being captain is all about.

⭐ Caitlin Baker was on point with both her kicking and defence, putting in another important all-round performance.

⭐ Macka Ellis (Hayley’s Raffles) was brilliant at ho**er, causing the Crossfields defence a constant headache and working tirelessly around the middle.

Our props Maisie Todd (JC’s Sandwich Bar), Paige Stevens and Kaya Laing all put in huge minutes, laying the platform for the team.

Sophie Newsome caused plenty of problems out on the edge while also doing a brilliant job wrapping up Crossfields’ power plays.

Hayden Coney (SC Tiling) and Toni Danielle (Matthew & Robinson) both got through plenty of work, putting in some brilliant carries and doing the hard yards for the team.

🎙️ Coaches’ Comments

“We’re all proud of them. They weren’t the best conditions to only have one sub, but the ladies just got on with it.

They’re champions in our eyes.

We were a couple of pivots down today and had to play shapes with players who normally play in other positions. Those ladies were brilliant, directing the team around the field.

It was great to be able to get a win so far from home in this sort of adversity.”

That mentality is what makes this group so special. 14 players, one sub, players stepping into unfamiliar positions and still finding a way to win.

⚪️⚫ U18’s Moorends 22–32 Bronte ⚪️⚫

A fantastic away performance from our U18s as they battled hard to secure a 32–22 victory over Moorends ARLFC.

The lads got off to a flyer, with Harrison Tonks powering over for his first of three tries. Harrison carried the ball into three defenders, showing tremendous strength to get over the line. Joe Huskins was unable to add the conversion.

Bronte continued to build pressure and crossed for two more tries, with Ryan Wood and Harrison Tonks getting over the line. Ryan Wood converted his own try.

There was some excellent play from Joe Huskins, who put in a perfectly weighted kick which Mason Bentley was unlucky not to finish off.

Harrison was involved again shortly afterwards, breaking the line and putting Mason clear, only for the referee to rule that he had run dead.

It wasn’t long before Mason got his reward, taking his opportunity in style in the corner following a brilliantly executed set move. 👏

Joe Huskins then took advantage of Moorends being short in defence to cross for another well-worked try.

Harrison Tonks was a constant threat throughout the game and rounded off an outstanding individual performance with a hat-trick and two assists.

The platform was set by some excellent carries and defensive efforts from Rylee Wilks, Ayren Daniels Stewart, Thomas Mist and Jack Burkill, while Ronan Sharp made some superb line breaks.

Zac Marshall produced some brilliant kick returns under pressure, giving the team valuable field position.

At ho**er, Elliot Vaux was busy from the opening kick-off. His outstanding defensive work and quality play around the ruck kept Moorends under pressure throughout.

Moorends kept battling and managed to put points on the board, but the lads showed great character and composure to keep working and eventually close out a 32–22 victory.

“It was a good game in general. A few decisions went against us at times, which gave the opposition field position and meant we had more defending to do than normal, but the lads showed their qualities to close the game out.”

🏉 Bronte Barbarians U7s 🏉

Our U7s travelled over to Stanningley today and enjoyed another fantastic morning of rugby league. There was plenty of action, lots of smiles, and another opportunity for the players to continue learning and developing in a fun environment.

A huge well done to coaches Paul and Thomas for the fantastic work they’re doing with this young group. Week by week, the players are growing in confidence, improving their skills, and, most importantly, enjoying every minute of their rugby league journey.

A big thank you to Stanningley for hosting a brilliant festival. Our youngsters had an amazing time.

Our U14s travelled to West Bowling today, with the hosts just edging a thrilling contest 20-18.

Bronte raced into an outstanding 18-0 lead and looked firmly in control. However, a couple of early injuries forced a reshuffle, disrupting the team’s rhythm and leading to a few uncharacteristic errors. West Bowling took full advantage, with some strong carries from their forwards creating the platform for their playmakers to attack the edges and work their way back into the game.

Credit to the Bronte lads, who dug in and regained their composure, but despite creating chances in the second half, they were unable to convert them into points.

With Bronte winning the reverse friendly earlier in the season, the honours are now even at one win apiece. Coaches Ady and Nathan will take plenty of positives into the summer break, with today’s performance showing this group can more than compete against teams from the higher leagues.

🏉10 Years of Rugby 🏉
⚪️⚫️A Decade to Be Proud Of⚫️⚪️

Over the last 10 years of rugby, we’re now seeing many of our very first players coming through not only as talented rugby players but also as officials, showing just how far our club has come.

We’ve watched players develop and progress into the elite game, with five former players recently helping the England DiSE squad to a successful tour of France:

* Eva Green – Leeds Rhinos / Sheffield Eagles
* Diamond Osobu – Leeds Rhinos
* Kiers Hollings – York Valkyrie
* Ellie Garside – Huddersfield Giants
* Tegan Sant – Huddersfield Giants

Each of these young ladies successfully completed the two-year England DiSE programme.

DiSE is a dual-career performance programme that combines education with elite rugby development. Players receive high-level coaching through England performance camps, with England Head Coach Stuart Barrow closely monitoring their progress throughout their journey.

Match One saw England Under-18s defeat Catalans Dragons Women 36–16, with all of our former players making a fantastic contribution.

Match Two saw England defeat France Under-19s, with three of our former players playing key roles in the victory, while two others unfortunately missed out through injury.

Back at their elite clubs, more of our former players continue to thrive, including Abi Keeley (Featherstone Rovers), Heidi Taha (Wakefield Trinity) and Mollie Rattigan (Wakefield Trinity).

Not everyone has stayed on the playing field either. Lexie Hague has hung up her boots and picked up the whistle, beginning an exciting journey as a rugby league referee. It’s fantastic to see former players continuing to excel in the game, whether that’s as players or officials.

Closer to home, our Open Age Women’s First Team has been producing some outstanding rugby in their first season together. Thirteen of our Under-18 girls stepped up into the senior side while still eligible for another year at Under-18 level. They competed in the Winter League, finished in the top six, lifted the final-ever WRLA Plate, and now, with just three league games remaining, sit top of the division, two points clear.

As we celebrate 10 years of rugby, we also look forward to another exciting chapter. Our current Under-18 boys are preparing to make the step into Open Age rugby in our colours next season, ensuring the future of the club remains in safe hands. Watching one generation inspire the next is exactly what community rugby is all about.

A huge congratulations to all of our former players representing their clubs and England, and good luck to everyone involved in elite and international programmes.

Ten years ago we started building a club. Today we’re building a legacy. From juniors to internationals, from players to referees, every success story started here. Here’s to the next 10 years of developing talent, creating opportunities and continuing to make our club proud. The future has never looked brighter.

Everyone at Bronte Barbarians would like to wish Ellie Garside the very best of luck as she makes her international debut for Scotland tomorrow.

To earn international honours so early in your career is a fantastic achievement and a true reflection of your hard work, dedication and talent. We couldn’t be prouder to see you representing both your country and our club.
