🏏 SENIOR MEN’S WEEKEND ROUND-UP 🏏
And just like that, the 2026 Men’s season is done!
The final weekend saw all three senior men’s sides in action, with plenty to celebrate despite a frustrating Saturday.
Saturday saw Baildon provide the opposition for both the 1st and 2nd XI, with the 1st XI ending the season with a defeat, while the 2nd XI were beaten by the rain.
Then on Sunday, the 3rd XI completed the job, securing victory and being crowned Halifax Sunday League Champions!
1st XI
A depleted Birstall side, hampered by injuries, could only limit Baildon to 334/5 from their 50 overs, with Dan Marlow once again the standout performer, taking 2/78 from his 15 overs.
The reply was dominated by a superb first Birstall CC century for Shabir Rashir, who smashed 102 from just 74 balls.
Captain Noah Chapman provided excellent support with a brilliant 84 from 71 balls.
Despite their best efforts, the 1st XI couldn't quite chase down the target, eventually going down by 95 runs.
2nd XI — PROMOTION!
The 2nd XI went into the final game needing just 5 points to secure promotion to the 2nd XI Premier League.
After restricting Baildon to 232/9, Birstall reached 89/5 before the rain arrived and forced the game to be abandoned, which securing the points needed for back-to-back promotions!
Muhammed Rehan and Ryan Gray were the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets apiece.
With the bat, Taseer Javad (44) and Adam Eustace (36) got the side off to a flyer before the weather intervened.
3rd XI — CHAMPIONS! 🏆
After last week's abandoned game had already secured promotion, the 3rd XI knew victory against Buttershaw St Pauls would confirm them as Halifax Sunday League champions.
Thomas Hosley saved his best until last, producing the best bowling figures by a Birstall CC player all season, an outrageous 8/17 from just 8 overs!
That spell restricted Buttershaw to just 64.
The chase started nervously, but once again the ever-present and consistent Sam Isles stood up when it mattered, guiding the 3rd XI home with a superb 44 from 33 balls.

And with that, the 2026 Men’s season comes to an end.
A massive thank you to every player, captain, coach, volunteer, scorer, supporter and sponsor who has played their part this season.

🚨 BACK-TO-BACK PROMOTIONS! 🚨

The 2nd XI are PREMIER DIVISION BOUND!

From Division 2 to the PREMIER DIVISION — all in consecutive seasons.

What an achievement from the lads, who have gone from strength to strength and now find themselves heading to the Premier League of the Bentley Drains Bradford Cricket League.

A special mention to Dan Pauley, who captained the side to promotion last season before handing over the reins midway through this campaign.

Enter Alex Drake…

Taking charge mid-season, Drakey has led the team over the line and secured back-to-back promotions.

Two seasons. Two promotions. ONE HELL OF A RIDE.

Your teams for the final time this year.

1st Xi host Baildon at Leeds Road, Peters comes in for Mistry with Sodeyi making his 1st Xi debut in place of the injured Brad Lay.

2nd Xi require just 5 points in the reverse fixture to secure promotion to the Prem. Mistry slots back in to the side. Huge opportunity for the 2s to go back to back promotions for the first time in our Bradford League history.

Support welcomed home and away.

CAREER MILESTONE

100 WICKETS FOR RYAN GRAY!

From coming through the Birstall junior ranks, to a brief spell at Altofts CC, and back to where it all began — Ryan has now reached a fantastic 100 wickets for Birstall CC.

And he's done it in style:

Having represented Birstall since his junior days, Ryan has been a huge part of the club for over a decade, and this milestone is a brilliant reward for years of hard work and commitment.

2014–2026. 100 wickets.

Congratulations, Ryan! Here's to plenty more wickets in Birstall colours.

🏏 SENIOR MEN’S WEEKEND ROUND-UP 🏏
A frustrating weekend for the senior sides, with both the 1st and 2nd XI suffering defeats, although the 2nd XI came oh so close to chasing down Bowling Old Lane’s total.
1st XI
East Bierley posted 269/8, with Dan Marlow the standout performer with the ball, finishing with an excellent 4/54 from his 15 overs.
Without talisman Sharoon Siraj, who has now returned to Pakistan, runs were hard to come by.
Nick Kaye (41) and Henry Rush (27) were the only batters to pass 20 as the 1st XI fell short.
2nd XI
Bowling Old Lane posted 254 from their 50 overs, with Ryan Gray leading the attack with an outstanding 5/53.
Taseer Javed chipped in with an impressive 3/67.
There were plenty of contributions with the bat, but nobody could quite kick on to a big score. (Adam Eustace 45, Muhammed Rehan 43, Lee Peters 42)
Ryan Gray smashed a rapid 24 from just 11 balls, giving the 2nd XI hope of pulling off the chase.
But it wasn't quite enough. The 2nd XI fell agonisingly short by just 9 runs.
Both sides finish their campaigns next week, but there's still plenty to play for.
The 2nd XI need just 5 points from their final game to secure back-to-back promotions.
