Ever wondered about the story behind DHD? As we begin to celebrate our 10th anniversary, we’re shining the light on Founder and Principal, Deborah Hoskins (me! 👋)

“My mission is to offer every student a solid dance education in a supportive, non-competitive environment where they feel seen as an individual and inspired to grow and I’m absolutely devoted to ensuring that happens at DHD” - Miss Deborah

Deborah’s passion for dance began at the age of 5. Her talent and dedication were recognised early when, at just 14 years old, she was awarded a full-time vocational scholarship to study at the prestigious Urdang Academy in Covent Garden, London.

Following her professional training, Deborah performed and taught throughout London before relocating to West Yorkshire in 2015. She now teaches across Leeds as a freelance dance educator and is proud to be an Associate Artist with the Royal Ballet & Opera, delivering the Bradford Chance to Dance programme. Alongside this, Deborah is an ISTD Approved Tutor, mentoring and training aspiring dance teachers towards their Diploma in Dance Education qualification.

A highly qualified and experienced dance educator, Deborah holds Licentiate status in Imperial Classical Ballet, DDE in Modern Theatre, and is a Registered Teacher with the RAD, holds a Level 3 Certificate in Mat Pilates, Progressing Ballet Technique certified and Rambert Grades certified.

In 2016, Deborah founded DHD with a clear vision: to create a welcoming, inclusive dance community where every individual can thrive. She is committed to inspiring confidence, nurturing creativity, developing technical excellence, and fostering a lifelong love of movement while ensuring the mental and physical well-being of every student is at the forefront of all we do.

Whether you’re returning to the barre after years away or taking your very first steps in ballet, our Wednesday night adult classes offer a warm, inclusive, and supportive space to dance! 🩰

Our Adult Ballet classes offer wonderful way to build strength, improve flexibility, posture, and core stability, while giving your brain a fun, mindful workout. At DHD, our adult classes focus on quality tuition, technique, and community in a friendly, welcoming environment.

We offer options tailored to your experience every Wednesday evening:

🩰 Adult Ballet Level 1 (6:30pm) – Perfect for beginners or those wanting to refine their foundational technique.

🩰 Adult Ballet Level 2 (7:30pm) – Great for dancers with previous experience looking to build on technical proficiency and more challenging sequences.

🩰 Adult Pointe / Demi-Pointe (8:30pm) – A dedicated extension for those working on building strength for pointe work or refining their skill!

Looking for a fun, energetic class where your child can literally make some noise? 👟💥 Tap dance is one of the most enjoyable and rhythmic forms of dance out there!

Not only is it a fantastic way to develop rhythm, coordination, and musicality, but children have absolute blast discovering all the different sounds they can make with their feet! 🎶👏

How Tap works at DHD:

🩰 Ages 3+: We introduce Tap alongside Ballet in our Preparatory, Pre-Primary, and Primary 1 & 2 Ballet & Tap classes! It’s the perfect, playful introduction to dance.

👣 Graduating to Solo Tap: As dancers grow, the styles split so they can dive deeper into Tap, building confidence and following the structured ISTD grade system.

✨ Class Spotlight: Modern Theatre Jazz at DHD! ✨

Lively, energetic and lots of fun! 💃🎭 Our Modern Theatre Jazz classes at DHD give children the opportunity to develop their dance skills, confidence and performance ability while having a fantastic time.
Following the ISTD Modern Theatre Syllabus, children learn core dance skills that are developed and built upon as they progress through the grades. Classes follow a structured syllabus, combining set exercises with free dances, and children have the opportunity to take ISTD examinations if they wish. 🌟

Modern Theatre Jazz is one of the three core Theatre Dance subjects - Ballet, Tap & Modern and is a style you’ll often see lighting up the stage in musical productions. 🎭✨
With travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns, dancers build strength, flexibility, coordination and performance skills, all while discovering the joy of dance!

We’re proud to teach Modern Theatre following the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) syllabus which is one of the world’s leading dance examination boards.

Ballet is our most popular subject at DHD and it’s easy to see why! 💖

More than just dance, ballet helps children develop strength, flexibility, coordination, confidence and discipline, while nurturing creativity, musicality and a lifelong love of performing. Along the way, they build friendships that last a lifetime. ✨

Our classes follow the internationally recognised ISTD syllabus, with lessons designed for every age and stage. From imaginative preschool classes that introduce the magic of ballet through play, to graded training, teen beginners, adult ballet and our Further Development Programme for ambitious young dancers, there’s truly something for everyone.

At DHD, every child progresses at their own pace. We focus on building strong, safe technique and confidence, ensuring each student is placed in the class where they’ll thrive. Exams are available for those who wish to take them, but they’re never compulsory, many of our students simply dance for the joy and all the incredible benefits it brings while others work to pursue pre-vocational and vocational studies. 💜
