💛🖤🏉 UNDER 10s vs BIRKENSHAW BLUEDOGS ARLFC 🏉💛🖤

Last Saturday we welcomed yet another new opposition to Swillington, the Birkenshaw BLUEDOGS.

Swillingtons numbers were stronger this week with 12 players available to play. Bluedogs, having lost a few players to injury, were down to 7 and so we were able to lend a couple to make sure all the kids got to play a full game of rugby.

This time, pre match preparations were much better from Swillington and the players seemed switched on and fired up for the game ahead.

With the sun shining and warm up complete, we were ready to play. The Bluedogs started with ball and got off to a cracking start with instant impact and a try from their biggest player who barged through our defensive line.

This shook Swillington a bit, but they quickly regrouped looking to return with interest, and hit back quickly.

What then followed was a great and very evenly fought game for the supporters to enjoy, with solid displays and good rugby skills on show from both sides.

The coaches were encouraged to see another great performance built on the hard work and effort at training that week showing strength in both attack and defence in what was a much harder contested game with strong opposition.

Thanks to coach Sam and the rest of the Birkenshaw Bluedogs coaching team, and to all their players for a brilliant morning of rugby. Shout out to all the kids who played in the match for their efforts and a thanks to all at Bluedogs for their manners and for tidying up after at the clubhouse.

A MASSIVE shout out to all our certificate winners too who were recognised for their great performances on the pitch.

We then headed off to Old Trafford for an amazing experience for the kids as we represented Swillington and cheered on Yorkshire in the Super League Grand Final.

Tomorrow we are back on the road and travel to Holmfirth to play Underbank Rangers ARLFC for what promises to be another great morning of rugby against new opposition, so let's get behind the kids. Looking forward to it!

💛🖤🏉 UNDER 10s v FRYSTON WARRIORS ARLFC 🏉💛🖤

Last Saturday we made the very short journey to play local team Fryston warriors ARLFC.

Again, another new opposition for us, but this time with added spice as the squad included a former Swillington player who recently moved there.

Despite a couple of late drop outs, we still had enough players for a full squad and we arrived with good energy at a sunny Fryston ready for action. The Warriors, a relatively new team, had 11 players which meant we were able to play a 9v9 game and they had a couple of subs to swap in as required.

The warm up proved a bit frustrating with some uncharacteristic mistakes being made as Swillington didn't quite seem in their groove yet. However, some encouraging words and reassurance from coaches Mark and Rob seemed to do the trick, as we made a real strong start to the game.

It was clear from the start that this was by no means going to be an easy game, as the Warriors put on a solid display and made sure Swillington would have to work hard to get any sort of reward.

Once again, the Swillington kids continued to work hard and grow into the game as they built on the previous performances and put on a great show of strength in both attack and defence. There were plenty of strong individual performances along with some really nicely worked team tries with plenty of offloads and passing to the players out wide.

Loads of positives to take into the next game and plenty of good rugby on display from both sides to keep all the supporters happy and cheering on the kids. It was also pleasing for the coaches to see the improvements and progress with the team gelling well.

Thanks to coach Simon and the rest of the Fryston Warriors coaching team, and to all their players for a cracking morning of rugby. Shout out to all the kids who played in the match for their efforts, for their great sportsmanship and banter with our former player, making it an enjoyable day for everyone.

A MASSIVE shout out to all our certificate winners too who were recognised for their great performances on the pitch.

This Saturday we welcome Birkenshaw BLUEDOGS Rugby League Club U10s to Swillington, after which several of our U10s head off to Old Trafford to represent Swillington along with some of our younger age groups to watch a Yorkshire vs Lancashire battle as Wakefield Trinity take on Warrington Wolves in the Super League Grand Final. Don't miss what should be a great day of rugby and memories for Swillington.

💛🖤🏉 UNDER 10s vs WIBSEY WARRIORS ARLFC 🏉💛🖤

On Saturday we were back on home turf as we welcomed Wibsey Warriors ARLFC to Swillington ARLFC.

Just like the previous week, with facing a new opposition, we went into the game not knowing what to expect, but we were hoping to build on last weeks great performances.

Wibsey, travelling from Bradford, were a little light on players (with just 5 players able to make it), so we agreed to balance things out as much as possible, to make the numbers even and ensure every player got a game. Big thank you to our players who stepped up to help even things out in each half. It's a hard one to be asked to play against your teammates, but thank you for doing it.

It was feeling very autumnal as the players warmed up, and then typically, the rain started just in time for kick off. However, our players were up for it and didn't let a bit of rain dampen their spirits as we made a really strong start straight from the off.

It was great to see Swillington doing as we'd hoped, building on last weeks performance, with plenty of strong individual performances along with some well worked team tries. Again showing strength whilst running with purpose through the middle, and also with passing the ball through to the players out wide.

Even more pleasing, was the defensive effort throughout and and the line speed - something we had been working on in training.

There was plenty of good rugby on display to keep the supporters happy and cheering us on. It was also pleasing for the coaches to see further improvements and progress being made on the pitch.
There are still things to work on, but we can see the learning coming through into their games and we are going in the right direction.

Thank you to coach Becki and the rest of the Wibsey coaching team, and to their players for a great morning of rugby and good sportsmanship at Swillington (thanks for checking in, asking after our lad who was hurt in the game, too. He is ok now and should be back soon).

Well done to all the kids who played - and a BIG shout out to all our certificate winners who were recognised for their performances on the pitch.
