Arm day for the bros ๐Ÿ’ช

If you want bigger arms, you donโ€™t need 15 different exercises. You need a few movements you can actually progress and perform well.

Here are 4 of my personal favourites ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ’ช Bayesian Curl โ€“ Biceps

One of my favourites for keeping the biceps under tension through a big range of motion.

With your arm behind your body, you get a great stretch on the biceps, making this a solid hypertrophy movement.

๐Ÿ”จ Heavy Hammer Curl โ€“ Biceps

Want thicker arms? Never skip hammer curls.

They hit the brachialis and forearms alongside the biceps, helping build that overall arm thickness.

Go heavy, but keep the reps controlled. Remember you are lifting weights, not launching them ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ‹๏ธ Overhead Dumbbell French Press โ€“ Triceps

The triceps make up a huge part of your upper arm, so they deserve some serious attention.

The overhead position puts the long head of the triceps under a good stretch, making this a great mass builder.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Overhead Rope Extension โ€“ Triceps

Another great long-head movement, especially for getting a strong stretch and contraction.

Perfect for finishing off the triceps without needing to move ridiculous amounts of weight.

The formula is simple:

Train hard.
Control your reps.
Progress your lifts.
Eat enough.
Repeat.

Now go build some arms ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ˜‚

Save this for your next arm session. You wonโ€™t regret itโ€ฆ

Think you need a gym to get a great workout? Think again. ๐Ÿ‘€

If youโ€™ve got 30 minutes and a bit of determination, then youโ€™ve got everything you need to build strength, improve fitness, and challenge yourself.

Hereโ€™s a simple bodyweight workout I made that hits your entire body,

๐Ÿ’ช Push-Ups โ€“ 3 sets ร— 10โ€“20 reps
Build upper-body strength by targeting your chest, shoulders, and triceps, while your core works overtime to keep your body stable. This exercise can be done on your knees to make it easier.

๐Ÿฆต Bodyweight Squats โ€“ 3 sets ร— 15โ€“20 reps
Develop stronger legs and glutes, improve mobility, and build the foundation for better movement in everyday life and sport. Box squats can be done for extra support.

๐Ÿ’ฅ Broad Jumps โ€“ 3 sets ร— 5โ€“8 reps
Train explosive power, speed, coordination, and athleticism. Focus on quality reps and stick the landing every time. A great plyometric exercise to spice things up

๐Ÿชจ Plank โ€“ 3 sets ร— 30โ€“60 seconds
A stronger core means better posture, improved stability, and more efficient movement in almost every exercise. Make sure to keep them hips low!

๐Ÿฆธ Supermans โ€“ 3 sets ร— 12โ€“15 reps (or 20โ€“30 second holds)
Strengthen your posterior chain by targeting your lower back, glutes, and upper backโ€”muscles that are often neglected but vital for long-term health.
A very important exercise that most tend to skip on!

๐Ÿ˜ฌBurpees โ€“ 3 sets ร— 8โ€“15 reps
The ultimate full-body finisher. Theyโ€™ll test your strength, fitness, coordination, and grit while burning plenty of calories. No ones favourite exercise!๐Ÿ˜…

โฑ๏ธ Rest 45โ€“60 seconds between exercises, or complete them as a circuit if youโ€™re looking for an extra challenge.

The best workout isnโ€™t the one with the fanciest equipment, itโ€™s the one you actually do.

Which exercise are you finding the toughest?

Sometimes itโ€™s easy to think that tying your shoes is just part of getting ready for the gym.

But it means so much more.

๐Ÿ‘Ÿ to stay independent
๐Ÿ‘Ÿ to move without pain
๐Ÿ‘Ÿ to clear the mind
๐Ÿ‘Ÿ to feel like themselves again

Every pair of shoes has a different story.

Whatโ€™s yours? โค๏ธ

Progression is one of the most overlooked principles in fitness in my opinion.

Too many people either choose exercises that are too advanced for their current ability or stay with the same movements for years without challenging themselves. The key to long-term progress is choosing exercises that match your current level, mastering them, and progressing when youโ€™re ready.

Hereโ€™s a simple chest pressing progression๐Ÿ‘‡

๐ŸŸข Beginner โ€“ Wall Press

The wall press is an excellent introduction to pressing movements. It teaches proper pushing mechanics while placing minimal stress on the shoulders and wrists. Because youโ€™re standing upright, youโ€™re only pressing a small percentage of your body weight, allowing you to focus on technique, posture, and control.

This exercise is ideal for beginners, those returning to training, or anyone looking to build confidence before progressing to more demanding movements.

๐ŸŸก Intermediate โ€“ Flat Dumbbell Bench Press

Once youโ€™ve developed a solid foundation, the flat dumbbell bench press is the next step. Dumbbells force each arm to work independently, helping improve stability, coordination, and muscular balance while increasing strength in the chest, shoulders, and triceps.

Compared to beginner exercises, this variation requires greater control and stability, making it the perfect progression for those who have mastered the basics.

๐Ÿ”ด Advanced โ€“ Incline Barbell Bench Press

The incline barbell bench press is a fantastic exercise for building upper chest strength and overall pressing power. The barbell allows you to lift heavier loads, making it ideal for progressive overload and long-term muscle growth.

However, lifting heavier weights safely requires good technique, shoulder stability, and a strong foundation of pressing strength. Thatโ€™s why this exercise is best suited to experienced lifters who have already earned the right to progress.

Master the fundamentals, stay consistent, and keep progressing. Thatโ€™s how real strength is built. ๐Ÿ’ช

Save this post for your next push session, and let me know in the comments which level youโ€™re currently at! le

As we celebrate 15 years, it's important to recognise these legends! The motive8 team are truly what makes motive8 the great place it is! Always a smile on their faces, always have each others backs, always have the best interests of their clients at heart. I'm proud to call these guys my team. ๐Ÿฅฐ

I know I might be biased but I think they are the very best PT's in Leeds.

Kate has worked (put up!) with me for the last 14 years. We often talk about client journeys, but Kate's journey as a PT has been phenomenal. From someone who joined the team as a class instructor to an experienced PT who has a wealth of knowledge about how the body moves, she's our go to girl for helping people with niggles and injuries. Combined with her unfaltering enthusiasm it's no wonder her clients love her!

At 9 years, Emily is also up for long service!! I love Emily's holistic approach training. The advice she gives doesn't just focus on exercise, but considers the whole person and their lifestyle to get the very best out of them. Her passion for what she does shines through in each session and has her clients coming back for more!

Courtney is our 'go to trainer' for delivering gym inductions at our residential gyms across Leeds. This guy lights up the room with his smile and positivity, just what you need when you're starting out in a new gym.

Currently on mat leave we're missing Vicky in the studio! Her attention to detail in planning and programming is second to none, if you've got a strength based goal then she's your girl!

Last but not least, Leon. When we were talking about our 15th birthday Leon kindly reminded us that he was 4 years old when we opened (thanks Leon!). Despite being our newest member of the team Leon is making his mark and his clients are achieving amazing things!

We also need to say a special thank you to our fabulous freelance instructors. Alex who teaches Yoga and Jordan who delivers our massage days, they keep our corporate clients moving and mobile!

Thanks for everything x๐Ÿฅฐ

Forget about England's amazing win at the weekend โšฝ We have some more exciting news! It's our 15th Birthday!! ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽŠ๐ŸŽˆ

What a 15 years it has been! It brings a smile to my face as I think of the hundreds of people we have been blessed to train during this time and support them on their fitness and wellbeing journeys. So many happy memories ๐Ÿฅฐ

Both our personal training clients and our team have achieved amazing things over the last 15 years ๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ
Often these can be outcome driven goals like completing a 10k, Hyrox, Tough Mudder....whatever takes your fancy, but the thing that makes me feel most proud is the positive impact the team have on their clients long term wellbeing and health. There is no disputing that taking part in a race is a great goal, but what about simply improving your fitness and wellbeing to have optimal impact on your day-to-day strength and longevity? For me that should be the main driver for exercise and nutrition and this is something the team here really support with their clients.

And that brings me nicely to the team! 15 years in business is something I'm truly proud of, but I could not do it without the great team here behind me. As the fitness industry continues to grow and develop so does their knowledge and expertise which is what makes them the best in Leeds! They are also the best at team work!

A heartfelt thank you from me and the team for each and everyone of you who has supported us throughout the last 15 years. ๐Ÿ™

Staying active in hot weather can be challenging.

Here are our top tips to help you to adapt you workouts and remain consistent.

1. Exercise at the right time. Avoid peak times, so aim for early morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler.

2. Stay hydrated. Drinking during hot-weather workouts will help your sweating system do its job better! Unfortunately, you cannot simply drink as much water as your body can take. The use of isotonic sports drinks can help to hydrate and also re-balance electrolytes lost via sweat.

3. Dress for the weather. Wear loose fitting, light-coloured fabrics that are not cotton so that they allow sweat to evaporate and dry quickly โ€“ itโ€™ll help your body to breathe and cool itself naturally through evaporation. A cap can also help if you're training outdoors.

4. Listen to your body. Signs and symptoms of heat related illness include fatigue, discomfort, lightheadedness, cessation of sweating, disorientation and nausea. If you find this is happening whilst exercising in the heat, stop exercising and find a cool environment as quickly as possible.
