The latest (and probably last) post from The Mermazing Four……..

We have been in discussions with our pilot, the charity and each other. And it seems like some things just aren’t meant to be.

We have been offered a slot from our pilot at the end of the season (beginning of October). Unfortunately, this doesn’t work for Sharon, Nat and Mark due to other commitments. Annie is still wanting to swim in a relay to France this year, and is currently forming a new team.

Nat and Sharon are looking at joining another relay team to swim to France next year.

Mark is swimming solo to France in September anyway!

We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your support and encouragement, it means so much to all of us.

It has been a very difficult decision to come to and one we never envisioned we’d have to make.

We wish all the members of The Mermazing Four every success in their individual endeavours to reach France 💙💚🩷💛🧡

The latest update (Monday 14th August 2023)……….
As you know, our window closes tomorrow. We have been waiting for a break in the weather to enable us to swim. Unfortunately, due to safety, we have now been told we will not be able to swim in our window. As you can imagine, we are all extremely disappointed.
We are currently in discussions with our pilot and the charity to find out what our options are and we will update you further once we know ourselves where we go from here.

Day 6 of our window and both swimmers 1 & 2 have now been out so we are next up! But the wind has picked up again so we have to wait for a break in the weather to be able to swim. Hopefully soon 🤞

Day 4 of our window and the first swimmer went out today, so we are now number 2 in the queue! Swimmer 2 is going out tomorrow, then it’ll be our turn but the weather is looking “iffy”. So it’ll be more waiting for us until the weather improves again. We’ll keep you posted 🧜‍♀️🧜‍♀️🧜‍♀️🧜‍♂️

A quick update……..day 3 of our window and no boats have been out so far. We are slot 3 with Louise Jane II which means it has two lots of swimmers to take out before us. It’s looking promising that that the first slot will go out tomorrow. At the moment, we are still waiting on “the call”……..🧜‍♀️🧜‍♀️🧜‍♀️🧜‍♂️

Our channel window opens tomorrow! That’s come around quickly! Now we just have to sit and wait for “the call”…………

Another day, another 3 swims. Today it was Nat, our green mermaid who started swimming at 6am to try and avoid the wind. Just over a week until our channel window opens and we will be swimming to France to raise money for The Alexa Trust. We’re all on the last push of training now 🧜‍♀️🌊🤩

3x1 hour swims for the Blue Mermaid today. Conditions were at least calm, if not very inviting. Big thanks to my support crew (Me) for keeping me motivated and making me get back in the water. Thanks also (to Me) for the coffee and stuffed bagel between swims. 🤣🤣. Note to self: buy more dark lined swimsuits😱🤣.

Thanks also to the random mix of international tourists and some wetsuit swimmers for letting me know how cold the water was today😂😂.

And to the random dude who told me to turn my car engine off when I was warming up after the last of my swims….mind your own business🙄🤣. A great day out. Curry and an early night for this mermaid tonight🧜‍♀️

Our swim is now just over 3 weeks away! We are swimming when we can but it’s proving difficult with the current windy weather. But it looks to be improving next week so hopefully still some time to get the final training swims in.

So as our mermaids Nat, Anne & Sharon were finishing their practice night relay, our merman Mark was getting ready to head out on Louise Jane Charters supporting a solo swimmer with her crossing. We would like to wish them all the very best of luck with the swim.
