STRONG SWIMMER… NOW SWIMMING SMARTER 🏊‍♀️💙

Dee came to us as a strong and capable swimmer, but she was finding that she tired more quickly than she would have liked.

She didn't need to learn how to swim — she needed a few adjustments to help her use the strength and ability she already had more efficiently.

During her session we worked on her breathing, arm entry and propulsion, as well as introducing a little sighting for open-water swimming. 🌊

And then it all started to come together…

Once Dee found a comfortable, regular breathing rhythm and began to feel how the changes were helping her move through the water, that lovely stroke appeared.

Smooth. Relaxed. Controlled.

And importantly — more efficient.

Dee worked really hard throughout her session, listened, practised and made some fantastic progress. 👏

Sometimes improving your swimming isn't about putting in more effort. It's about making the effort you're already putting in work better for you.

Brilliant work, Dee — that super-smooth stroke was lovely to see! 💙🌊

🌕🐟 STURGEON MOON FISH & CHIP SUPPER 🐟🌕
Well… the weather may not have given us a spectacular Sturgeon Moon, but we certainly didn't let that spoil our evening! 😂

A dip in the Solent followed by hot fish & chips, huddled together by the beach — what more could you want?

Thank you to everyone who came along. These evenings aren't really about the moon, the swim or even the chips… they're about the people. 💙

What a wonderful summer we have had, plenty of sun and swimming. As the end of August approaches we have come to the end of our community swim sessions at Stokes Bay on Saturdays. Not to worry our Monday night community swim is stronger than ever and we have a full programme of additional events to look forward to.

THIS is why we coach 💙🌊

When Suzi first came to us, swimming wasn’t something she could simply relax and enjoy.

A frightening experience in the water a few years earlier had knocked her confidence, and you can see in the beginning of this video just how hard she was working.

She was tense.
She was fighting the water.
And swimming felt like hard work.

But we saw something we could work with.

We slowed everything down, went back to basics and worked on relaxation, body position, breathing, balance and technique.

And then… just look at her. 🥹💙

The difference is incredible.

A calmer, smoother, more controlled swimmer — but most importantly, a more confident Suzi.

This is what coaching means to us.

It isn't always about making someone faster.

Sometimes it's about helping somebody trust the water again, believe in themselves and rediscover the joy of swimming.

Suzi, you should be incredibly proud of how far you've come. 🌊💙

FROM POOL SWIMMER TO SEA SWIMMER 🌊💙

Jane came to us as a very capable swimmer.

In the pool she was confident, comfortable and perfectly happy putting her face in the water.

But the sea? That felt different.

Suddenly, putting her face in wasn't so easy and she found it difficult to relax enough to let her natural swimming ability take over.

So we didn't teach Jane how to swim — she could already do that!

Instead, we worked with the swimmer she already was.

A few little tweaks to her technique, some work on breathing and body position, and most importantly, giving her time to become comfortable in a completely different environment.

And what a difference. 💙

The tension began to disappear, her face went into the water and that lovely relaxed swimmer started to emerge.

Sometimes good coaching isn't about changing everything.

It's about finding the little things that are holding someone back and helping them realise what they're already capable of.

🌊 A BIG SEA SMART THANK YOU! 💜

Now that our Sea Smart sessions have come to an end, we'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make them happen.

Over the two weeks, more than 20 young people joined us on the beach to learn practical skills and important messages about staying safe around the sea — including tides, waves, rip currents, beach flags, peer pressure, Float to Live, and what to do if someone gets into difficulty.

We've also shared some of our safety demonstrations through our reels, which have now received over 1,000 views. We're delighted that those potentially lifesaving messages have reached far beyond the young people who joined us on the beach. 🌊

💜 A very special thank you to our wonderful volunteers, Emma Hughes and Jamie Hughes. You gave up your time to support Sea Smart, mucked in and helped us make the sessions happen. We really appreciated having you there and couldn't have done it without you.

🖨️ And another huge thank you to Speedyprint, Lee-on-the-Solent, for sponsoring the printing of our Sea Smart cards. Their support meant every young person could leave with important water-safety information to take home and share with their family.

And, of course, thank you to every young person who came along — for listening, asking questions, getting involved and giving everything a go — and to the parents and families who supported them.

Sea Smart started with one simple aim: to help young people enjoy our beautiful coastline while giving them the knowledge and confidence to make safer choices around the water.

If just one of those lessons helps someone when they need it, then it was all worthwhile. 💜
