Langford Ladies Shine for Gloucestershire Women’s Seniors

Langford Ladies had a fantastic day representing the Gloucestershire Women’s Senior Squad on Thursday 6th August at Wrington CC, taking on a very strong Somerset side.

Mel had an outstanding day in the field, stopping boundaries and getting the ball back in quickly with her fantastic throwing arm. She also made an impressive 51 runs on her batting debut for the senior squad. Her all-round performance, combined with her excellent fielding, earned her the well-deserved Player of the Match award.

Lucy bowled consistently well throughout the game, picking up an excellent two wickets.

Gem played her part behind the stumps, securing Lucy’s second wicket with a smart stumping and conceding just three byes.

There is even more to celebrate, as Gloucestershire Women’s Seniors have reached the league final! The final will be played on Thursday 27th August at Frocester CC.

Well done to all the Langford Ladies — a fantastic achievement and a brilliant day of cricket! 🏏👏

💚💛💚💛💚 Ladies Results 💚💛💚💛💚

On Thursday past, Langford travelled to play our neighbours Faringdon in a friendly 10-a-side hardball pairs fixture. Due to a combination of illness and injury, Langford arrived with only 7 players; however, Faringdon demonstrated great sportsmanship by lending players to support our side. The match also marked the debut appearance for two new players, Stacey and Jacs.

Langford commenced the match in the field, displaying commendable bowling across the team, with our debutants showing great composure at the wicket.

In the second innings, Lucy and Esther opened the batting with an energetic display. The remainder of the batting lineup maintained the momentum with excellent running between the wickets, capped off by Stacey and Jacs scoring their maiden runs for Langford.

Though the exact final score remained undecided, the contest was tightly fought throughout. We extend our sincere thanks to Faringdon for their hospitality and for facilitating such an enjoyable match.

** CELEBRATING SUCCESS **

Last weekend, our very own Hector was in the ECB South & West Team at Bunbury Festival, the prestigious event for junior cricketers in England. Although the result didn’t go their way, we are immensely proud of one of our own. Hector has been with Langford since he started playing cricket and what a future he has ahead of him! He will also be making his 1st Team League Debut this weekend away at Aston Ingham, go well mate.

💚💛💚💛💚 Ladies Results 💚💛💚💛💚

On Tuesday, we travelled to Tetbury for our next hard ball game of the season. The drizzly rain nearly put an end to the game before it started but with a bit of patience, the first ball was bowled.

Langford fielded first taking 3 wickets. Some consistent bowling from the team. We then headed into bat and runs were shared around all players.

The excitement came in the last over were we needed 12 runs from 6 balls to win. It came down to the last ball with all the pressure was on Amy’s shoulders. She managed 2 runs from the last ball for the win. Such a close game but it over the line!!!

** MATCH RESULTS **

A fairly successful week for the senior teams at the club, with the 2s, 3s and T20 side getting some huge wins at the weekend.

A huge congratulations to Hector who scored the 2nd highest individual score in the clubs history, just behind HFW’s 188* quite a few years back now. The 2s had an excellent day out securing maximum points against Goodrich.

The 3s had an excellent chase against local rivals Great Rissington, lots of people contributing with the ball and then B Brindle needing 5 of the last ball to secure his 100 ends up going for an agonising 1 bounce 4.

The 1s had a difficult day out at Hawkesbury Upton, at one stage, the hosts had us at 37-5, but Jake working with the middle-lower order managed to get us close to the 200 mark. Unfortunately we weren’t good enough with the ball and in the field and Hawkesburys overseas scored a decent ton to see them home.

During the week the T20 side had a good run out against Minster. Courty seems to love it down there and now averages 164 there this season. We managed to bowl well and restrict Minster when necessary despite their captain getting a well made 80 odd.

We go again this week with another T20 against Wolvercote at home. Then on Saturday we roll into the second half of the season the 1s away at Stroud, the 2s home to Stroud and then 3s host Chipping Campden at Lechlade. Go well all.
