Had an enjoyable day today on the sporting layout at Bisley Shooting Ground. Clays were well presented and the place was quite quiet for a mid week session. Unfortunately I had only brought my usual Fiocchi piston wad, which don't meet the grounds fibre only rules, so bought a slab of their branded gamebore cartridges (£57). First stand the sunken Grouse butt and I was getting into the swing of the birds, when I dusted the first bird and had a pfft (best way to describe the noise) on the second. The primer went off and didn't ignite the powder and sent the wad a quarter way down the barrel. Luckily I managed to push the wad out and clear the unburnt powder and carry on, however had this happened to an inexperienced shooter and they'd carried on without checking for clear barrels, the potential disaster is shocking. To be fair this is the first time this has happened to me in all the years of my shooting, as well as taking clients and parties out, but it's a definite reminder to maintain safety standards and checks.
