Hailey Reserves 1-2 Leafield Reserves
Leafield Reserves came into this fixture rooted to the bottom of the league table, without a win since Christmas and with confidence understandably low. A difficult performance the previous weekend against a depleted Tower Hill side had done little to lift morale.
In stark contrast, Hailey Reserves arrived as league leaders, unbeaten all season and boasting a strong, well-organised squad. On paper, this looked like a daunting task for Leafield but football rarely follows the script.
The opening 45 minutes played out much as expected, with Hailey controlling large spells of possession and testing Leafield’s defensive resilience. To their credit, Leafield battled hard, showing determination and discipline despite the pressure.
However, the breakthrough came for Hailey via a set piece. A well-delivered corner caused problems in the box, and Leafield were unable to clear their lines, allowing Hailey to convert and take a 1–0 lead into the break.
Despite the deficit, there were signs of fight from Leafield, who remained organised and committed.
The second half told a completely different story.
Leafield emerged with renewed energy and intent, pressing higher and showing far more attacking ambition. Their efforts were rewarded when a pinpoint delivery from a set piece by Connor Allsop found Josh White, who rose superbly to head home a well-taken equaliser.
At 1–1, the momentum shifted. Hailey, previously comfortable, began to look unsettled, while Leafield grew in confidence.
Defensively, Leafield were outstanding. The back four, led impressively by Collis King, stood firm against Hailey’s attempts to regain control. Behind them, Victor Brinza who has had limited minutes this season produced a composed and assured performance in goal, making key contributions and proving his value to the side.
The Winning Moment
As the game progressed, Leafield continued to push forward, sensing an opportunity for something special. That moment arrived following a clever attacking move that saw the ball break kindly for Josh White.
Showing composure and confidence, White kept his nerve, rounded the Hailey goalkeeper who had found himself caught in no man’s land and calmly slotted the ball into an empty net to complete a remarkable turnaround.
Full-Time: Leafield Reserves 2–1 Hailey Reserves
This was a huge result for Leafield Reserves a performance full of heart, resilience, and belief. Against unbeaten league leaders, they showed character to recover from going behind and produced a second-half display that will live long in the memory.
Josh White’s brace will grab the headlines, but this was a true team effort, with standout contributions across the pitch particularly from Collis King in defence and Victor Brinza in goal.
Hailey Reserves will undoubtedly be disappointed to lose their unbeaten record, but credit must go to Leafield for a determined and well-earned victory.
