Without a doubt, one of the biggest highlights of my year has been coaching this girls’ team.

Seeing the progress they’ve made through consistent hard work, trusting the process, and turning up week after week has been incredible. Watching their confidence grow, their love for strength training develop, and seeing them become genuinely competitive lifters has been something special.

At the end of this month, our Bear Strong team of 7 lifters will be stepping onto the platform for our next competition, and I couldn’t be prouder. I’ll be excited, nervous, stressed to the max, and probably questioning every decision I’ve made as a coach—but that’s because I care so much about getting it right for these girls.

Coaching this team has been the most rewarding, exciting, and challenging thing I’ve done as a coach. Every PB, every tough session, every competition and every bit of progress makes it worth it.

The future is bright for this team, and I can’t wait to see what they achieve next.

On Saturday, we saw a huge number of athletes step into the arena for the Renegade New Blood Strongman Show—a competition designed specifically for complete newcomers to the sport.

Many of the competitors from Bear Strong Gym once believed that competing in Strongman was beyond their capabilities. But they committed to the training, trusted the process, put in the work, and stepped onto the competition floor. The result? They absolutely loved it.

In fact, every one of them has already signed up for the next show.

We know there are plenty of men and women out there who are interested in Strongman but think it’s something they could never do. The truth is, with the right coaching, the right support, and the right team behind you, it is absolutely possible.

As I’m sure you can all understand, this is a very difficult decision to make — and an even harder one to commit to.

I’ve had 11 amazing years running Inspire Gym and then the Bear Strong Performance Centre, and I’m incredibly proud of everything we’ve achieved over those years. The gym has been such a huge part of my life, and the memories, people, and community built here will always mean the world to me.

But I’ve reached a stage in life where I’m ready to pass the gym on into fresh hands.

Lately, I’ve realised I’ve been holding on more for the members, Francis, and Sandra than for myself. As much as this place holds a huge piece of my heart, I can’t fully move forward while continuing to run it.

This has been heartbreaking and, without doubt, the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make. Looking at my own health both physical and mental, it’s almost a forced decision but still the right one . But I know that making this difficult choice now will open brighter paths for all of us in the future.

I truly believe someone with the same excitement and passion I had 12 years ago could thrive in this place. The gym is a big success, has a huge future ahead of it, and could make someone very happy who genuinely loves gym life and the community that comes with it.

If anyone is interested in having a chat about taking over, please get in touch.

To all members — please don’t worry. We’ll make any change of hands as smooth and easy as possible and will always give plenty of notice of any changes happening. For now, it’s business as usual.

Sandbags

Most people shy away from going near sandbags , thinking this style of trainings only for strongman. But yet strongman training and events has crossed over into many sports including cross fit and rugby conditioning!

Every day we walk into the gym and hear another story…
A new PB. A breakthrough performance. Another athlete taking a huge step closer to their goals.

That’s what this is all about.

The best part of coaching isn’t just the medals, totals, or records — it’s seeing people back themselves, trust the process, and realise they’re capable of more than they thought possible.

Our athletes put their trust in us, and that pressure to deliver is real. We actually loose sleep worrying and making sure every step is right choice, and they are sure of getting the results they want! But honestly, there’s no buzz like seeing months of hard work finally click into place.

And we’re only getting started…

The next few months are stacked with competitions, and the Bear Strong team is coming in hungry.
More comps. More PBs. More records ready to fall.

2026 is shaping up to be a massive year for the team.

Deadlift bracing tip 👇

There are 2 ways to brace:
• Brace at the top, then get into position
• Get into position first, then brace

What works best depends on your body type.

👉 Slender lifters can usually brace at the top and pull straight away.
👉 Lifters with a bigger midsection often get a better setup by getting into position first, then bracing.

Big mistake people make:
❌ Quick breath in → immediate pull

Instead:
✅ Take your breath
✅ Hold it for 1–2 seconds
✅ Build pressure
✅ Then pull

And don’t just push the air into your stomach — push the pressure into your lower back against the belt for better support and stability.

It’ll feel strange at first, maybe even lightheaded, but once you get used to it the difference is massive. 💪

We both come from strong sporting backgrounds — Chris from a big rugby background and Francis from hurling — before moving into strength sports and diving deep into the world of strength & conditioning.

Over the years, we’ve built a level of knowledge and education that simply can’t be learned in a classroom alone. Competing at a high level and surrounding ourselves with some of the best athletes and coaches in the world has taught us lessons, methods, and systems that most people never get exposed to.
