Well done to the our masters men completing the Ocean to City today with some pretty rough water on the exposed sections of the course.
The slower boats were set off first, bringing together an incredible mix of yawls, kayaks, curraghs and rowing boats for a spectacular run to the finish line.
Due to conditions, the course was shortened to 22km but they completed the race in 1hr 48min, covering 26km in total. What a great achievement!

A huge thank you to Sarah Pike from Lincoln Rowing Club for expertly coxing them today. With a crowded finish and boats everywhere, her skill in weaving them safely through the fleet was outstanding and played a huge part in their race!

Good luck to our members Mark, Alan, Simon and Graeme, taking part in the 28km Ocean to City tomorrow, Ireland’s largest rowing and paddling event. The race sees hundreds of competitors travel from Crosshaven through Cork Harbour and into Cork City in a wide variety of boats, including skiffs, currachs, kayaks and rowing boats. It’s a challenging and exciting event that celebrates endurance, teamwork and Cork’s strong maritime tradition. Hope you all have a great race! 🚣🏻

Been a bit quiet on the posting front recently… mostly because we’ve just been busy out rowing instead 🚣🏻
Great to see our juniors progressing, more getting out in the club single, some getting out in the double for the first time, and others learning to cox too!
Plenty of good work going on behind the scenes, even if we haven’t caught every session on camera.
Can’t complain about the weather either. Sun shots mandatory…. obviously ☀️

We’re not quite sure where to start with our write up from the weekend… such highs and lows .. literally 🌊

We’ll start with the conditions. Sadly, strong northerly winds meant the sea was not safe to row on Saturday and the Masters Championships had to be moved to Sunday. Unfortunately, this also meant the planned Open & Junior event had to be cancelled.
To say we were disappointed for our junior rowers would be an understatement. After months of hard work at training, taking on the challenge of smaller boats and preparing to race for the first time, it just wasn’t meant to be this weekend. But our Cairndhu juniors are made of strong stuff 💪 . They’ll pick themselves up and be back training this week, ready for the next event.

Now, onto the Masters and what a thrilling day it turned out to be. 🌊 🌊
Although the wind had eased somewhat overnight, it wasn’t for long. With a revised start time of 6:30am 😳, racing got underway in very challenging conditions.
Throughout the day, our crews had to dig deep….. not literally, and that’s exactly what they did. We are so proud of every single rower who showed incredible grit, determination and resilience, doing the club very proud ❤️🖤
This is what coastal rowing is all about and we love it!!!

A special mention has to go to our ladies in the 40’s quad category, who sadly missed the start of their race through absolutely no fault of their own. Congestion on the slipway, along with difficulties getting their cox off the water from a previous race and back out again, meant the race began without them.
Huge credit to this crew, they still went ahead, starting several minutes behind the field, and their time put them in 5th place. An incredible effort 🙌.

We’re delighted to come home with a fantastic medal haul, in fact, every Cairndhu rower is home with a medal!

Just 2 more sleeps until the Swift Racing Masters Sculling Championships and Open & Junior Regatta in Glenarm, hosted by Olderfleet Rowing Club 🚣🏻

We’re delighted to have 11 crews entered into the Masters Championships, including a composite with Donegal Bay Rowing Club Clg and 13 crews racing on day two, 8 of them junior crews.
Some of the juniors are rowing up well above their age category and taking on smaller boats which they’ve never raced in before, which is fantastic to see!

We’re hoping for some great weather, great sea conditions, a great atmosphere, and most importantly a great weekend of racing. ❤️🖤

If you’re free this weekend, please come along and support all the crews and clubs taking part and help make the event special!

Best of luck to all clubs racing! 🍀
