St James Swift’s u23s-0
Carrick Athletic-4

The gulls continued their scintillating start to the season with a resounding win against a well drilled and determined St James side. After a tepid start to the game that saw St James have the majority of the ball the gulls took the lead after a high ball into the box was spilled by the GK and Ryan Clawson was on hand to slide the ball into the unguarded goal. The swift’s were struggling to deal with the ball over the top of their defence and it was another precision kick from make shift GK Jordan Bell that lead to the gulls doubling their advantage as Matthew Mcfaul raced onto the ball nodded it back across goal were Clawson was again waiting this time meeting the ball with a powerful downward header into the bottom corner that gave the keeper no chance.
The 2nd half began the same as the first with the gulls slow out of the blocks and but for some resolute defending from the defensive pairing of Matthew Neil and Josh Caldwell then St James may have gotten back into the game. The game was put beyond doubt when, yes you guessed it, Ryan Clawson picked the ball up in the left hand channel danced his way past defender after defender before clinically curling the ball into the bottom corner from outside the box once again leaving the home GK clutching at straws. With the game petering out St James continued to battle on but they were matched and then some as the gulls relentlessly went in search of a 4th with every player on the pitch giving everything and the 4th soon arrived as after more good work down the left Clawson bore down on goal once more this time however the keeper saved his initial shot though Clawson was not to be denied his 4th of the afternoon as he composed himself before firing the ball home.

Man of the match- Ryan Clawson

Antrim Rovers-1
Carrick Athletic-3

The gulls impressive start to the season continued with a 3-1 win against a youthful and motivated Antrim Rovers side. The gulls took the lead in spectacular fashion as the returning Ryan Clawson collected the ball on the left wing left 2 Rovers defenders trailing in his wake before curling a magnificent effort into the top left hand corner from 22 yards out that left the goal keeper with no chance. The game was flipped on its head when Antrim were allowed back into the game when they confidently dispatched a penalty to draw level. With their tails up Antrim began to dominate the game and Carrick were happy to hear the half time whistle.
A tactical change at half time saw Ryan Mcleery step into midfield and this move proved pivotal. As Mcleery started to dominate in midfield the gulls once again started to build up a head of steam and but for some fine goalkeeping by the home shot stopper the gulls would have been ahead on numerous occasions. However he was eventually beaten when Clawson broke away again this time down the right hand side he jinked past multiple defenders before cutting the ball back to the on rushing Karl Johnstone who expertly finessed the ball into the roof of the net to give the gulls the lead they craved. As the clock ticked on and Antrim pressed for an equaliser the gulls defence held firm and they extended their lead as Clawson raced onto a through ball and clinically slid the ball under the goalkeeper to put the result beyond doubt.

Carrick Athletic-5
Newington Rangers reserves-0

The gulls got new manager Matthew Corrs reign as manager off to the perfect start with a dominant 5-0 win against a spirited Newington side. With barely a minute gone Matthew Mcfaul played a delicious ball over the top of the defence that released Dee white and he made no mistake as he expertly lifted the ball over the on rushing goalkeeper. Mcfaul then got on the scoresheet himself albeit under controversial circumstances as his free kick took a large deflection, the dubious goals panel are still investigating though most spectators agreed he will more than likely have the goal chalked off. The gulls continued to pepper the Newington goal and the 3rd goal came after superb work from Dee White saw him get to the bye line and float a scrumptious ball to the back post were Conor Scott rose highest to power home a header and mark his debut with a goal.
The 2nd half started the same way the first ended with the gulls in the ascendancy and they soon had a numerical advantage on the pitch as Newington went down to 10 men after a last man challenge saw their man head for an early shower(had the changing rooms been open). The extra man soon became apparent as holes started appearing all over the pitch and White had his 2nd assist of the game as he laid the ball on a plate for another debutant Dee Edge who had the simplest of jobs as he slid the ball into the empty net. 4 soon became 5 as White grabbed his second of the game late on as he comfortably slotted home from close range.

Man of the match- Dee White
