Monday 29th April
A special match against a top team who have come all the way from New Zealand on a tour of Scotland. The New Zealand All-Stars Football Academy have toured Scotland playing 11 teams over 12 days, including Rangers, Celtic, Kilmarnock, Dunfermline to name but a few. So Stenny 2013’s were proud to form part of the All-Stars tour.
To mark the occasion (Stenny’s No.4) Aidan’s brother, Evan, kindly piped the teams out onto the pitch. While posing for pictures the teams exchanged gifts and then kicked off the match.
Being the Stenny boys’ first “international”match, it would be understandable if they had some nerves about coming up against a great opposition. However, that was not the case and both teams were on it from kick off. There was some excellent play from both sides and the match proved to be thoroughly enjoyable for players and spectators alike.
After the match both teams enjoyed a buffet that was kindly put on by the Stenny 2013’s parents. The head coach for the All-Stars spoke some kind words showing their gratitude for the hospitality shown. The All-Stars parents demonstrated how impressed they were with the Stenny boys by asking if they were an academy team like Rangers who they had drawn with the previous evening. This should bring the boys great confidence in their ability to compete at this level and win.
The event was enjoyed by all and Stenny would love to host the All-Stars again on future tours. Although some of our players had hinted they would like a wee trip to New Zealand for a match 😄
