January is here and it’s THE BEST time of year to set yourself up for success. For those of you really wanting to make a positive impact we want to JUMPSTART our January.
1. Dry January.
Yes the term is overused. Yes it’s boring. It’s also a challenge and challenging things make us feel great. It’s amazing for your body and mind to reset from the impacts of alcohol and the choices that follow. Everything else will fall into place with this one step trust us.
2. Kick Vices.
You know what they are. I bet we all smoked, vaped, partied 👀 more than ever through January. Kick em!!
Throw it all away! Just like Dry Jan, give yourself the month. It’s amazing what 4 weeks off does to the way you’ll think about these vices.
3. Cleaner eating.
A topic too broad to cover in a post so to keep it simple, more whole, real, home cooked foods. We don’t have to be perfect. Slightly fewer packets. Slightly less processed foods. Try no takeaways for the month. More fruit and veg. Simple but effective, great for body and mind, energy, recovery and the mysterious but super important gut health.
4. Low sugar.
This deserves its own point because there is nuance to it. Sugars aren’t bad. But, the more sugar we eat the harder it is to regulate blood sugar/energy levels therefore effecting overall food intake and arguably choices. The flip side of that, lower sugar means better food choices, more stable energy levels and more control over intake. All good things. Try around 5% of your daily calorie intake of sugar, which is very manageable. You’ll be surprised though how easy it is to go over that. Struggling to work that out, on to the last point….
5. Food Diary
We at GymShed like to move away from the term Calorie Tracking and instead talk about keeping a Food Diary. Great things will come of it. Knowing your overall intake vs. An estimated calorie output (from how much we much) is nothing but totally empowering. Knowledge is power! Apps such as NutraCheck (my favourite) allow us to keep a diary of what we consume extremely easily. You want a food plan? These apps help you create your own! Don’t know what information to take from it? Talk to us and we can help!
