More mileage doesn’t always mean more progress. 🏃‍♂️

One of the biggest mistakes runners make is increasing their weekly distance without giving their body enough time to adapt. Recovery isn’t a setback—it’s part of the process.

The strongest runners aren’t necessarily the ones who train the hardest every week. They’re the ones who train consistently, recover properly, and stay injury free over the long term.

✅ Build gradually
✅ Include easier or maintenance weeks
✅ Trust the process
✅ Focus on consistency over perfection

Your goal isn’t just to run more this week—it’s to keep running for months and years to come.

Save this post for the next time you’re tempted to add “just a few more miles” to your training. 👍

“I cannot believe you got me running a marathon.”
Messages like that never get old.
Because for so many runners, a marathon starts as something that feels impossible.
Something other people do.

Then, with the right support and consistent training…
It becomes reality.
“The training plan was perfect and adjusted accordingly to how my body was reacting, with regular check-ins to see how things were going.”

That’s what coaching is all about.
Not just ticking off sessions.
It’s adapting when needed.
Answering questions.
Building confidence.
And making sure the training works for the person, not the other way around.
The best part?
“I’m over the moon to say I’ve finally run a marathon.”
That feeling is why I do what I do.

One of the biggest mistakes runners make is thinking they need a better training plan.

Most of the time, they already have one.

What they’re missing is confidence in what they’re doing.

Someone to answer the questions.

Someone to help when things don’t go to plan.

Someone to stop them overthinking every run.

Because training for a race isn’t always straightforward.

Life gets busy.

Sessions get missed.

Confidence goes up and down.

That’s normal.

The runners who do best aren’t usually the ones with perfect training.

They’re the ones who keep moving forward when things aren’t perfect 👍

You’ve probably tried a training plan before.

Maybe it started well...
Maybe you even nailed the first few weeks.

Then work got busy.
Life got in the way.
You missed a few sessions.
And suddenly the whole plan felt broken.

The problem isn’t a lack of motivation.

The problem is that most plans are designed for perfect conditions and real life is anything but perfect.

The best training isn’t about following a plan perfectly.
It’s about having the flexibility to adapt when life happens, while still moving towards your goal.

That’s exactly what coaching is designed to do.

✅ Miss a run? We adjust.
✅ Busy week? We adapt.
✅ Feeling tired or carrying a ni**le? We make smart decisions.

Because consistency beats perfection every single time.

Do you have an injury all is not lost.

Do what you can do .

Talk to your physio and see what you can do that would help your injury like strength training or things that won’t aggravate the injury like swimming , cycling and yoga.

Don’t do nothing you will set yourself up better for when you’re back running by doing what you are aloud to do.

That’s what this client told me before we started working together.
Now?
Marathon completed.
Two more half marathons booked.
Already researching the next marathon.

That’s what happens when training is built properly around the person.
Not just the race.

“My training was tailored around my busy lifestyle, making it a fun and enjoyable experience even in the depths of winter.”

That part matters a lot.
Because marathon training should fit around real life.
Not completely take it over.
And honestly, seeing someone go from doubting if they could do one marathon…
To already looking for the next challenge…
That’s brilliant.

Running has a funny way of changing what people believe they’re capable of.

Race day didn’t go to plan?
That doesn’t mean the training was wasted.
You might’ve had the perfect training block…
But for whatever reason, race day just wasn’t your day.
And that’s hard.
Especially when you’ve put so much into it.
But one race does not define your progress.
If you stayed consistent…
Got the long runs done…
Built your fitness…
Learnt more about your running…
That block still mattered.
A lot.
Because running improvement is built over time.
Block after block.
Month after month.
Year after year.
Not from one single race result.
Sometimes the race goes perfectly.
Sometimes it doesn’t.
But every training block gives you something to build on for the next one.
And that’s where the real progress happens.💪

Heat changes your running more than you think ☀️

If your usual pace suddenly feels harder right now don’t panic.
Warmer weather means your body is working overtime to stay cool, so effort matters more than pace.

Slow down when needed.
Run by feel.
And remember: adapting is smarter than forcing it 👊

Has your running plateaued .

It may be because you’re just going from plan to plan not changing things or progressing them.

Coaching looks at the bigger picture where do we want to go long term and how do we get there.
