Issue 37 lands as the late-summer light begins to turn. 🚴‍♂️✨

Midweek sorties: Punching up Curry Rivel & Fivehead before dusk, plus post-ride pints at The York.
Weekend miles: Fast flat blasts through Westonzoyland, Charlton Mackrell loops, and a brand-new Sunday Social stop at Bere Cider Co. 🍏☕

Big Feature: Rallying for the 10th anniversary of Cycle 42 for Cancer—with 22, 42, and 62-mile routes supporting cancer care across Somerset.

Grab your bike, check Spond for routes and roll-out times, and let’s make the most of the golden hour.

Saturday Sorties: Reds & Blues Double Bill 🚴‍♂️☕🐑

Cracking miles across both the Red and Blue groups today, delivering smooth pacelines, quiet Somerset backlanes, and plenty of cafe banter:

Reds to Kimbers Farm Café: Graham led a strong turnout punching east toward Wincanton. Highlights included flying through green leafy tunnels, a brief tactical standoff with a local flock of sheep commanding the road, and an outdoor refuel stop at Kimbers with big plates, coffee, and cake.

Blues & Jet Blues to J’s Bistro: Smooth, steady miles rolling out across the Levels to Greylake. Perfect group riding, warm tables inside, and teapots drained dry over post-ride chat.

Two top groups, two great cafe destinations, and textbook early-autumn riding all round.

Saturday Sorties: The "Racing Greens" Break the Limit! 🚴‍♀️💨☕

A classic autumn morning across the Levels for the Greens, bound for Fika Kitchen in Chilton Polden.

Five rolled out from the start before collecting tail-rider Alan to make a six-strong squad: Ray, Lynne, Paul, Martin, Alan, and ride leader Nicky. The steady pace quickly earned an upgrade to "Racing Greens" after pushing well past the usual 12 mph ceiling.

Highlights included:
Visiting roadside Pluto 🐶
Nailing the brief with portrait camera work on the move 📱

A warm courtyard pitstop at Fika for brews and cake 🍰☕

Top riding, great company, and textbook social miles. 👏❤️

DISPATCH: OPERATION TERRA KNOLE 📜🚴‍♂️
Looming storms, hostile waterfowl in the Principality of Park, and the dreaded Beauchamp Bermuda Triangle couldn't stop the peloton.

However, serious administrative questions remain regarding the Chief’s route reconnaissance—most notably whether he genuinely believed "Bike Night" at The Lime Kiln catered to pedal power rather than internal combustion.
Watch the full reel above to witness the pasty ballast deployments, roadside mutinies, and the race against fading lumens.
🎂 Double Natal Day salutes to Captain Scott & Birthday Girl Quartermaster K!

📍 Next Objective: The York (formerly The Duke of York) — spares secured, compasses recalibrated.

⛰️ TUESDAY HILLS // ROUTE 3 RECAP

Another great turnout on the lanes tonight! Even with ominous-looking clouds rolling overhead and a light dampening on the tarmac, the committed were out in full force to take on the Somerton Loops.

Red Ride Leader Graham joined the ranks for some proper "home turf" climbing, alongside a big welcome to Ralph for a trial spin and Grant for his first LCC Tuesday Hills run. Coming with plenty of Cornish coastal pedigree, Ralph made light work of the escarpments, notably concluding: "It’s quite challenging to find the hills in Somerset." 😉
Grants mid ride chat included some prime nature observations—particularly on the remarkable "dragonfly population growth" this summer! 😂

Meanwhile, the usual suspects were out smashing the ascents: Rebecca, Pip, Andrew, Jezz, Jon, and Tom. Strava was lighting up post-ride with a fresh haul of medals and trophies dumped right across the Somerton surrounds.

Another Tuesday Hills in the bank! ✅
Next week, we dial it back for an active recovery spin (this is a lie, it'll be full power up red hill for sure) : Route 4 – Curry Rivel & Fivehead Lumps.

31/08/2026

While you recover from the bank holiday weekend, get your plans locked in for the shorter week ahead.

Along with the usual mid-week hills & evening social rides, the weekend will be packed with Club Group Rides (making up for the washout last weekend), Sunday's Local Bike & Brew, as well as a venture out of county with a Drive & Ride to the New Forest & Salisbury Plain.

Check Spond for full details, routes, and timings. Have a great week on the bike!
