Wow, is the first word that comes to mind when Meg Meg Lounds turned up this afternoon on her wheelchair with the snap-on . Meg is on day one of her six day charity Way of the Roses challenge in support of Lancashire Youth Challenge - ‘which enables young people to build confidence and resilience’. She is being supported today and tomorrow by Nicola and Tim on their super lightweight and ‘fast’ (their own words) Calfee Design carbon tandem.
Nicola was at the shop on Saturday doing the Rapha Women 100 ride with Kendal Cycle Club so shared the love with a return visit today with Meg. Nicola and Tim are in training to complete the Wheelbase Fred Whitton Challenge next year on their tandem and said the next stage is to master climbing out of the saddle!!!
Meg went on to tell me that she daily commutes on her handcycle from Morecambe to Lancaster so if you see her be sure to say hi as she is truly remarkable. We have sponsored Meg today and if you also want to then please copy the link below.
Best wishes to all of them in their adventures 😎😍👌🏻

Today Moniek and Ernst, from Groessen in the Netherlands arrived at the shop looking for a replacement set of pedals for Moniek’s bike. We got them fitted, then had a nice chat. They are in the UK for a week and spending 5 days riding the Way of the Roses camping or booking accommodation on the way (weather dependent!). They told me that a few months ago they were riding in the Pyrenees and showed me a photo of the temperature on Ernst’s Garmin at 47.8oC. So, even though today is wet and cool they were both in good spirits and enjoying their ride. They told me they ride road, gravel and mtb too - so they are truly an all round cycling couple! Happy travels to both of you 🇳🇱 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️😎

This happy bunch were all on their yearly family ride from Storth, S. Cumbria. They named it Tour de Ribblehead and was a two day ride which saw today full of mechanicals as they had their scheduled lunch stop at the shop. These four generations refuelled and stocked up with new inner tubes. Tonight they are staying in the pub at Ribblehead before looping back home tomorrow. Despite the mechanicals they were all super happy and enjoying the experience. Well done and safe onward journey to all.

Today I welcomed these lovely women from Kendal Cycle Club who were doing their Rapha Women’s 100 ride. Over the two pages they are: Cara, Karin, Nicola, Lucy, Mandy, Karen, Jacqueline and Jane. They were all in high spirits as they refuelled on focaccine, cakes and coffee before continuing their challenge. Well done to all and I look forward to welcoming them back to the shop soon 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️🚴😎👌🏻

I’m going to call these cyclists the Magnificent Seven! They arrived at the shop just as Kit on her Brompton (again, see our previous post - apologies it was a busy day of interesting cyclists!!) was departing. There was an exchange of Brompton Bicycle stories before she left and then these seven very happy chaps, albeit riding in changeable weather, devoured coffees, focaccine and cakes. They were Mike, Steve, Bill, Chris, Marcus, Charlie and Andy. Friends (from Worecester, London and Holmfirth) who have met up for around 20 years for adventures all around the UK - this time they are doing the Way of the Roses challenge. Mike, has the yearly job of planning the trips and loves to build in plenty of climbing on the way! Here’s to the next 20 years chaps 🚴🚴‍♂️🚴🚴‍♂️🚴🚴‍♂️🚴👍🏻

So, today Kit @ littlemisslonglegs_outdoors arrived on a Brommie Fan Page called William, whilst Elias (see our previous post) was with us. Great timing, because Kit is in training for a last minute 5 day trip to Belgium (there’s the link to Elias, from Belgium). Kit, a proud Scot, now living in Kendal, said she had lost her mojo of many years of cycling and adventuring and was motivated to make a pilgrimage to Paul Pedals, as she is “trying to get the love of cycling back!”.
It was great to meet Kit, an archaeologist and also a Warmshowers.org host, ‘the reciprocal hospitality for touring bicyclists around the globe’. She can be found on the site as kendalbicyclist.
Listening to her, I think she is already well on the road to getting her mojo back. Have a fun adventure in Belgium, Kit!! 🚴‍♀️🇧🇪👌🏻

Amazing people just keep rolling up to the shop. Today Elias Elias Blockhuys arrived, who left home in Antwerp, Belgium on 16 July (50 days ago!!) and like Ettienke (see our previous post) had no set plan (as such) and no time limit…, well apart from Elias wants to be home before winter sets in!!
So far he has ridden from home covering a large loop through Scotland, over the Caingorms, then to Glencoe and Arran. He is now heading south picking up the route heading through Wales.
Elias runs a successful company in Belgium and is working remotely as he goes. I asked him why he is on this adventure and he said “I travel to find a work life balance. It gives me more energy and boosts my creativity”.
Again, another amazing individual exploring by bicycle. Safe travels Elias 👏🚴‍♂️🇧🇪

Yet another amazing woman walked into the shop today…, meet Ettienke from Groningen in the Netherlands. It soon became apparent that she is a true explorer. This trip was a 20 day tour of the north of England and, like many of her trips, has no set plan. She pretty much goes where she fancies and camps each night on the way. She talked about many solo trips including, South America; Patagonia; Ecuador; Scandinavia; Mongolia and China. Ettienke was very matter of fact about her touring and I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with her whilst she fuelled with coffee and charged her devices and power bank. She was a truly inspirational woman and I wish her many safe adventures in the future. Oh yes, her bike was custom built and I guess also had many stories to tell!! 🇳🇱 🚴‍♀️😍

Today I had absolute pleasure of welcoming Bill and Janet from just outside Seattle, US. They are doing the Way of Roses over 4 days. I would loved to have joined them on their ride just so we could’ve carried on chatting. I wish them a very safe and fun adventure ahead 🇺🇸 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️👌🏻
