It's taken a lot of effort and I'm finally starting to feel like I'm returning to myself.

I've never been that assed about the gym but these sessions of quiet graft squeezed into my lunch break have done a lot for me. It's been good to add some new strategies into the well known mix.

There's probably a longer story to tell... a lot has changed in the last couple of years. I am still working in Adventure Travel but have had a big shift of direction. Starting to really get on top of my health and wellbeing... it's been a long journey, but I'm used to those.

It's almost 4 months since I published my book The Coast to Coast Companion and I've had so many lovely experiences and amazing feedback along the way:

I held an enjoyable and successful book launch in Lancaster, attended a book fair in Kendal and had my books for sale at the Kendal Mountain Festival bookshop, rubbing shoulders with all kinds of literary players.

This year my book is selling at Sam Read Bookseller in Grasmere and it has just been reviewed for the February edition of Cumbria Life Magazine.

Book reviews are regularly arriving too and so far, every single one of them has been 5 STAR. Whoop whoop! Just in case you were sitting on the fence about getting a copy, I've attached some reviews below :D

I still have a lot of work to do to promote my book and spread the word but I am really pleased at all the good will and support I've received so far along the way.

The signed copies are the most popular option, followed by print on demand copies for overseas readers. Interestingly, the ebook has only sold a handful of copies which has surprised me. I always prefer paper copies that I can throw in my rucksack, fold pages down and write in but I thought I was the exception to the rule... perhaps I'm not.

It was minus 27 degrees this morning, the coldest day yet and I was curious what it would be like. Would I be warm enough, but not too warm to sweat, would I be comfortable and enjoy myself in these temperatures? The answer is yes 😊

I'm happy that my clothing set up is spot on, and it's just my usual Scottish winter kit, boosted by some amazing woollen socks, my hot bag overmitts and a toasty down jacket in my pack for stops. My 10yr old Paramo is perfect with deep zips for venting and my trusty Odlo thermals have been great baselayers.

The only thing that freezes daily in these temperatures is my hair ❄️

The light in Finland has captivated me, every moment of the day it is different, mesmerising, reflecting off the snow as clouds shift and colours change.

And just when you think a day can't get any better, the northern lights make an appearance.

There could be a metaphor in there somewhere about keeping the faith... the aurora forecast was 9% probability, hardly worth taking a look.

I can feel my memory bank rejuvenating, filling up with special moments, replacing some things that I no longer need or want to keep hold of. Maybe there's another metaphor there, about the power of light in the dark.

Finland called... thank goodness I answered and made it happen.

The light today has been incredible. A vivid glowing sunrise led into a silver slivered day with diamonds dancing in the air and glittering underfoot.

It's hard to describe my love for snow and what it gives me. I often experience a deep feeling of calm and quiet, even in wild weather. There is a sense of connectedness and peace, something I think I crave most of the time.

Anyone else know what I mean?
