New players are always encouraged to join Lancaster Hockey Club and will always be made to feel truly welcome at our Tuesday night training sessions.

4 senior womens teams & 1 senior mens team playing in NW leagues, Vets Team, Junior squads for U8, U10, U12 and U14 age groups

Train and play between Lancaster University & the University of Cumbria

Sponsored by Clarkson Hirst Solicitors The club has a variety of squads to suit all abilities and ages. Currently there is a boys and girls section from age 5-18 years, a junior development side and U16 and U14 girls squads. In addition to the junior sections the club has five senior women's teams as well as a Development team providing a wide range of levels to suit everyone. If new members do not wish to play in weekend games or can't due to work commitments then members are welcome to attend training sessions to benefit from the great social aspects the club has to offer. We provide a well structured, challenging and enjoyable experience to all players of all abilities, enabling the best development to their own potential. Where appropriate juniors will be put forward for county representation and encouraged to play senior hockey.

To ensure you are covered by the clubs insurance, and eligible to play, you need to pay the first installment of your membership by Friday 18th September.

To get your membership up to date, simply head over to Teamo and select the option to either pay in full or via installments.

Junior Coach Wanted

Lancaster & District Hockey Club is looking for a Junior Coach to nurture and develop our 6-14 year old players, building the technical foundations early and sharpening tactical understanding as they grow towards senior hockey.

We have pitch availability on Monday 4-5pm and Tuesday 6-7pm, and we're happy to be flexible for the right person — able to cover one session or both.

You will be responsible for:
🏑Planning and delivering age-appropriate training that builds core skills and a love of the game in our younger players (6-10s), while sharpening tactical understanding and game-play ex*****on for our older players (11-14s).
🏑Creating a fun, encouraging environment where new players want to keep coming back, while raising the bar for those ready to be pushed further.
🏑Working alongside our senior coaching staff to help identify and prepare our most promising players for the pathway into club hockey.

Level 2 qualified or working towards is essential.

We are once again planning to host our senior 7-aside tournament, as part of Lancaster Hockey Festival, on Saturday 5th September, 10am - 5pm.

Following our merger last season we are looking at the feasibility of having a mens or mixed element as part of this year's tournament, so at this stage we are just asking teams to register their interest.

As always the tournament emphasis is on fun and inclusiveness. The entry will be £50 per team, with a maximum of 10 players per team.

We would also be looking for players from each team to support with the umpiring of some games and there will be the opportunity to receive some umpire coaching and tips ahead of the coming season.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of former player Lou Verdon (née Winder/Kippen) following a brave battle with cancer.

Lou was the first-team captain for Morecambe & District Hockey Club in the 90s and studied mental health nursing at St Martins (Now UoC) from 1991-1995.

Many of you will remember Lou as a fantastic hockey player and dancer.

She went on to become a fabulous and committed mental health nurse.

She will be deeply missed.

The service of celebration for Lou will take place on Friday 17th July 2026 at 14.30 at Lancaster and Morecambe crematorium, Powder House Lane, Lancaster. LA2 6AD.

Please wear whatever you are comfortable in, and incorporate something pink in honour of Lou’s favourite colour. Family flowers only, donations to St John’s Hospice.

There will be a chance to share memories of Lou afterwards at Lancaster Cricket Club, Lune Road, Lancaster. LA1 5QU.
