The hardest position in grassroots football?

Many would say goalkeeper.

Then one mistake becomes the only thing people remember.

Yet the best keepers keep showing up.

They organise.
They communicate.
They save points.
They take responsibility.

And when things go wrong, they stand back up and do it all again next week.

So let's hear it for the goalkeepers.

Shoutout to all GOALKEEPERS 🙌

A goalkeeper might just be the most demanding position on the pitch.
Every goal kick has to find a teammate.
Every throw — 5 yards or 50.
No bad touches. No protection. No room for mistakes.
They have to be brave, loud, strong…
and they’re often the first to be blamed when things go wrong.
The pressure is huge.
Yet they turn up every week, give everything, and do it all again.
Take a bow, keepers — every team needs you.

🧤 What to tell young Goalkeepers...

It’s tough being the last line of defense — especially when the goals feel bigger than your bedroom wall. But here’s what I remind them:

1️⃣ The ball has to get past EVERYONE before it reaches you.
2️⃣ The goals are oversized at this age — don’t expect to stop everything.
3️⃣ Your feet are just as important as your hands. Be confident with both.

As they grow, their role grows too.

💡 The 4 key jobs of a goalkeeper:
✔️ Save the ones you’re expected to.
✔️ Distribute quickly and accurately.
✔️ Be the voice that organizes the defense.
✔️ And every now and then — pull off a save that makes the crowd go “WOW.”
