Hi everyone, just a reminder of the club's "dress code".

Students and instructors are required to wear their gi and obi (belt) for training. In the warmer months we allow students and instructors to train in gi pants or plain shorts / leggings and t-shirts, although we do ask that students continue to wear their obi in this instance.

We can not allow students to train in attire that is inappropriate and in some cases can endanger the safety of themselves and others. We have seen numerous instances of students attempting to train in hoodies with drawstrings, fancy dress costumes including animal outfits with tails, combat shorts with long tassels, necklaces and chains all of which crate a choking risk. Please also note that the ONLY headwear we can permit is a flat headband (preferably soft) for holding back hair or a sweatband, we can not allow animal ears, unicorn horns, sunglasses rested on heads, baseball caps or any kind of hats etc.

Please can ALL parents ensure their children are aware of the dress code and ensure they attend in the appropriate clothing, thank you.

***IMPORTANT NOTICE***

I'd just like to take the opportunity to remind everyone that the church foyer (where you wait downstairs before classes) is exactly that and IS NOT a playground! There are no mats and pads and there are several items of furniture around. Please could students and parents ensure that we wait for our classes in a quiet and orderly manner whilst in this area, no running around, no playing tig, no rugby or bulldogs, no climbing on the chairs and tables. We had an accident (fortunately not serious) as a result of horseplay in this area last night. We also have other groups that operate within the building who we do not want to disturb.

Thank you.

Royton gradings took place today and Sensei Dave and Sensei Cameron officiated as grading officers. It was great to see a whole different set of students and a whole load of different perspectives on the techniques we work on every week. It’s really whetted my appetite for our upcoming gradings. Well done to all who graded, you did really well and thanks to Shihan Craig for having us.

Sparring has again become a regular at the sessions be that grappling or striking based. It’s important to understand the differences between a compliant and a non compliant opponent. Having all the technical knowledge in the world isn’t going to help you if you panic and go to pieces as soon as someone punches you. It gives students real opportunity to gauge how they would slip a technique into a real situation and I think it’s critically important. Really good work

Junior sessions have been predictably quiet this week in comparison to tigers with quite a lot having half term this week instead of last week. What that does mean is that the ones who do turn up get to take full advantage of the extra focus senseis can dedicate to them. This is good when we have so many students now progressing to higher belts and with 7 taking their black belts in just 3 weeks and with another 8 currently training for black belt too the focus is noticeably there which is great as I’d like to see them taking the plunge in the next 12 months. Great work!

Tigers sessions this week have been back with a bang with all 3 evenings mats packed. We’ve also had a few new starters taking their first steps which all in all is pretty impressive considering half the schools are off this week. Some real good work for the upcoming gradings, well done.
