Afternoon everyone,
This is a long post so as a quick statement, the rugby pitch and pavilion are safe, the football pitch is becoming a development site for a food village and an Aldi.
As there was a lot discussed and a lot of information given to us, I’ll try to be as succinct as possible but if anyone has any more questions or wishes for further clarity, please email me at [email protected] or message Callum Childs privately on facebook.
This development is supposed to be a way to offer more opportunities for the university to expand by way of the food village while supporting local Ceredigion food production. The development of this site hopefully should happen mainly in the summer period next year (no actual building is planned for this year) so shouldn’t impede on students too much. Obviously, this is highly subject to change due to this idea only being in the beginning stages of planning, and the university will let us know if any changes occur. The goal in terms of the pitches and pavilion is to have a fixed up and well-maintained site that is there for the students. While the plans have many different communities being involved, they do wish for the students to maintain a priority for the rugby facilities.
We will be receiving further updates in the future when more things are finalised as at the moment many things are still up for debate between the involved parties. In terms of the pitch and pavilion improvement, they will provide us with a more concrete plan once more details are finalised, but our execs feel very confident that the university has the preservation of this historic site at its heart. The pitches will have the drainage addressed in the end deal, and the safety/security of the site will be improved. The continuation of the pavilion and the pitch site has been assured as a priority for the university and in the future we will be following that up for more concrete assurances.
The university has asked us for input in the future of the pavilion and site and how best to utilise those facilities which we will address at another date (this post is primarily just to tell everyone what has been said). Honestly, this plan does seem like a positive thing for the university as a whole, and our club in particular. The university seems genuinely interested in supporting the rugby clubs and out of this deal we don’t lose much, but stand to gain a lot of facility improvements.
Again, if you have any queries please comment, or message Callum Childs with any questions on facebook, or my email at [email protected].
