The Ladies had a thoroughly enjoyable away‑day to Ballochmyle Golf Club with every travel detail running smoothly and the group arriving well ahead of our 11 o’clock tee time.
A random draw split us into teams of three, and we recorded both individual Stableford scores and a best‑ball Stableford score for each team.

Two additional challenges were in play: retaining the rotating pink ball and nearest the pin at the 17th. In the end, neither produced a winner — every team kept hold of the pink ball, and no one managed to drive the green at 17.

• Individual winner — Kate McAdam, 40 pts (BIH)
• Runners‑up — Janette Robertson, 40 pts; Alison Heron, 34 pts
• Team prize (outwith above winners) — Val Crawford, Jenny Pattenden & Fiona Carswell

The day finished on a perfect note when Janette surprised everyone with a delicious homemade cake and a flask of tea — a lovely, thoughtful treat to round off the outing.

Shiskine Golf Club hosted the final of the Arran Ladies Island Championship yesterday, featuring a closely contested match between Ann May and Val Crawford.

Both golfers brought great experience to the course, but Val delivered an exceptional performance, highlighted by four superb birdies at the 5th, 8th, 10th and 11th holes. She secured a 5‑and‑4 victory to successfully retain the Championship title.

Ann and Val expressed their thanks to their caddies, Susan Butchard and Sheena Murchie, referee Lynda Blair, and all the wonderful ladies who came out to support the final.

🏆 THE COMMANDO CUP

We thank Maureen and Christine for making the arduous and slightly less arduous journeys from Birmingham and Kilmarnock respectively to present the Commando Cup for the 40th consecutive year.
The 11th Scottish Commandoes were the forerunners of the modern day SAS and part of the selection process was completing the walk with full pack from the Scottish Borders to Ayr. Those who fell by the wayside were not part of the elite training camp, which included shooting live rounds at the weather vane on top of Lamlash Church (the original cause of the dents still visible) and walking off the pier in full uniform and kitbags.
The end of the evening brought a specific and moving coincidence into play, but more of that later.

26 adult members contested the Commando Cup in very different weather conditions from morning to evening. Surprisingly, but perhaps appropriately it was the evening starters who got the best scores, despite combating wind and rain.

Best Scratch: Craig Young with a gross 65.
One Magic Two (Craig Young at the 13th) 17th was drawn, so there is another roll over.

4th Net 65 (BiH over Stephane Lafosse); Neil Young
The top 3 all carded 64, so BiH (net) is recorded and decided the order.
3rd Sean Higgins (32.5)
2nd Liam Bremner (31)
But our Commando Cup Winner 2026 and a very popular one, is Robbie McGunnigle (29.5). Attached pictures, show him receiving the trophy from Maureen and Christine.
Robbie confirmed his grandfather (Walter Marshall) was one of those original Scottish 11th Commandoes and Maureen knew him personally. What a great story.

This evening’s Junior competition the Kelso Cup at Corrie has been postponed due to the weather. An alternative date will be posted in due course.

Final of the McLean Salver - this evening the final was played between Lee Girbow of Lamlash GC and Rory Currie of Shiskine GC. Congratulations to Lee who won 3&2.

💰 CHASE THE ACE WINNER 💰

This evening at the Lamlash GC, the latest Chase the Ace draw took place.
Ian Bremner’s ticket was drawn and he chose card number 23.
This was turned over and it was the Ace of Diamonds.
So wee Dan won the £2,177 jackpot.
Well done to him and thanks to all our members who participate in this fundraiser.
The new game will start with a £100 jackpot and the next draw will take place on the 13th September, as there is an Island pool competition taking place at the clubhouse next week.
Tickets for the draw on the 13th September will be on sale at the bar at £1 each, over the next 2 weeks, so good luck to everyone who buys a ticket.
