We are almost ready for our first Horizontal Jumps Meet on Sunday 26 April. Today we cleaned the runway, well my neighbour Stephen Hanton did it, whilst I was edging grass at the slabs.
It is looking good. The daffodils are out. Our licence has arrived for all our meets and everything else is ready and waiting. I will continue the weeding of slabs.
Look forward to seeing you all. Please get your entry forms in by 20 April in order that I can get the timetable out. Thank you

This past week and w/e has been very busy for some of our athletes. At the mid week Scottish Schools, Gemma, a 1st yr u17 had top places outside the medals for both LJ and hurdles. Holly won the hurdles with a new CBP. (Championship best performance) and also won the long jump, jumping further than the u20 girls.

Saturday saw Lili win Bronze at the u13 Scottish combined events Championships. Sunday saw Gemma also gain a Bronze at the u17 Scottish CE Championships. Both of these events were held at the Emirates indoor Stadium in Glasgow.

Meanwhile Holly was at Sheffield competing in the English u17 Championships at long jump and hurdles. She pulled out of LJ after 3 jumps as her recently recovered quad muscle started to twinge. On the Sunday it was the 60mH where she stamped her authority over the event in each of the first 2 rounds. At the final which she won in 8.39secs her time was a new British record.

These athletes train with us at Knockando at their jumps and throws. They do their hurdles in Aberdeen with coach Frank. We hope they will inspire all our other and younger athletes as good role models.

The afternoon of Friday 21st June saw the Moray secondary Schools horizontal Jumps Championships. A number of injuries prevented some athletes from participating, some could not make it for other reasons. It was a good afternoon with dry warm weather, despite the darkening sky.

The triple jump saw Gemma Forgie u15, Elgin High take the win with a new PB and Moray schools record of 9.71m, Rowan Bain (Speyside High) was in Silver. Speyside took the gold with u15b, Ted Bosomworth, on the comeback trail after almost 3 years of injuries, jumping 8.39m, his first ever TJ competition so a PB and county schools record.

At the long jump there was an exciting competition between u17’s Anna Reid (Elgin Academy) and Holly Whittaker (Elgin High) with Holly coming out on top with 5.43m and Anna taking silver with 5.01m. Holly broke the County record. In the u15’s Gemma Forgie took the gold with a 4.50m jump from Rowan Bain’s 3.96m which was a PB for her. Ted took the long jump gold with 3.95m from fellow school mate Dougal Giles in silver 3.65m and a new PB.
All jumps were legal wind speeds and the distances reached reflect the high standard of jumping within the county. Sadly there were no u13’s participating and we have to hope this is not a sign of schools abandoning summer athletics for other sports.

Dougal had to leave before medal presentation.

Friday 7th June saw the Moray Primary Schools Long jump Championships take place at Knockando. We were lucky that the rain stayed away until after we had finished. There were medals for Aberlour, Bishopmill, Knockando and Rothes. Almost all the youngsters had a PB as this was their first proper competition. For athlete Hope Handley a new PB of 3.63m.

Congratulations to all those who took part and hope to see most of you back next year.

My apologies for not putting up results from Meet 2. It was a smaller meet as some athletes were at MacMoray festival. Weather was good and wind gauge hardly moved. Most athletes were +0.0
Sorry we do not have any photos but there were 4 PB’s at TJ for Maddison, Rowan and Ryan, with Rhona= her PB. At the LJ there were PB’s for Maddison and Rowan, Kirsty, Lachlan and Mason. Well done everyone.

Next meet is Sunday 26 May, last chance to see how jumps are progressing before Scottish Schools and Moray schools Jumps championships. Please let me know if you can make it in order to get the timetable made up. Thanks and happy jumping.

We now have solid wood replacement take off boards and no jump boards, thanks to our local joiner, Mark Farquhar. When we asked him for his invoice he replied “Don’t worry about the bill. I will sponsor it for the club. I got a lot of your time over the years and would like to give something back.”

How kind is that? Thank you Mark. Here are some photos from the past of Mark enjoying his athletics.
Do not forget if you need a joiner, here are his details.

Our next meet is Saturday 4th May, giving jumpers another opportunity to compete before the District Champs. if you entered Meet 1 please just email Margery to say whether you are coming. If you need to download an entry form please go to Events on Scottish Athletics website.
