Not sure where to get started with strength training?
Over the next few weeks I’ll be breaking down the basics and helping you understand why strength training is one of the best investments you can make in your health, strength and independence as you age.

I feel that social media has just led to more confusion for a lot of people. And I really don’t want fear of ā€œgetting it wrongā€ be a barrier to people starting strength training and reaping the benefits.

So this first post in my Strength Foundation series asks the basic question,

What is Strength Training and how can it help me?

Strength (resistance) training is simply lifting an external weight, and or body weight, against gravity to challenge your muscles and make them adapt to get stronger.

Why does that matter?

Strength & muscle mass play a huge role in

āœ”ļø Metabolic health
āœ”ļø Bone health
āœ”ļø Protection against chronic disease
āœ”ļø Brain health
āœ”ļø Mobility and balance
āœ”ļø Reducing the risk of falls
āœ”ļø Sleep quality
āœ”ļø Reducing pain
āœ”ļø Maintaining independence as we get older

In fact, strength training is one of the most powerful things we can do to support our long term health and quality of life.

At Empower Your Fitness Studio, I help people build strength safely and confidently.
It is a calm environment, without the stress and noise of a busy gym.

A little re-introduction feels overdue!

I’ve been a little quiet on here lately, mainly because I’ve been busy setting up my new private coaching studio. ā˜ŗļø

And also, taking some time to reflect on the direction I’m taking with my business.

I’ve created this new space to help me grow and build a personal training & coaching service that feels truly aligned with my values.

After spending years coaching in a noisy commercial gym, I was in desperate need of place that felt calm, un-rushed and supported.

I have never felt comfortable in the commercial gym set up, it is a means to an end for most of us, but it can often feel pressured, overwhelming & overstimulating. So it’s no wonder many of us struggle to make it a routine.

The space I have now allows me to coach the way I want to coach. šŸ™Œ
My focus is, and always has been about helping people:
✨Build strength
✨Move well
✨Improve their mindset
✨Develop self-trust & consistency
✨Prioritise long term health
✨Create a lifestyle that supports you and brings you joy, rather than drains you.

I’ll be sharing more in the coming weeks, plus some upcoming ā€œpreviewā€ sessions for you to come along and see what I’ve been up to, ask questions or talk through your goals in calm and relaxed manner.

Thanks for being here & supporting me, whether you’ve worked with me or have just seen me around!

Focusing on the basics when it comes to my health and fitness has always been a foundation I come back to.
I truly believe that when we focus on fitness first, moving more, getting outside more, getting stronger & looking after ourselves, we are creating change that lasts.

Improving my fitness has over time given me:

A stronger body
A resilient mindset
And a level of self trust I didn’t have before.

It didn’t happen in 6 weeks, it’s still an ongoing project.

Some days I don’t feel like it.
Some days I would rather stay in bed.

But I show up anyway. (Mostly 😜)

Don’t wait to feel ā€œreadyā€
Start where you are and keep going.

Single best habit you can do for your health & wellbeing.

We weren’t designed to sit all day.
We need to move.

A daily walk can:
🌱Improve your mood
🌱Improve your energy
🌱Improve your cardiovascular health
🌱Improve your sleep quality

A daily practice of getting outside for a walk or run is my non negotiable.
It’s the simplest form of movement & I never think about it as a means to burn extra calories, because it gives me so much more than that.

Try šŸ‘‰
šŸ‘ŸAdd morning or evening walks to your routine
šŸ‘ŸIf you work from home, create a little ā€œcommuteā€ routine
šŸ‘ŸGet friends involved šŸ‘Æ
šŸ‘ŸListen to a podcast or just enjoy the sounds around you

So…. when in doubt

Walk! šŸ‘ŸšŸŒ±

I’ve been working on something behind the scenes over the past few months, and I’m really excited to share about it!!

I’m opening my own private coaching studio.

After 8 years of coaching, 3 of those in a commercial gym, my approach has evolved, and my environment now needs to reflect that.

It’s never just about delivering ā€œsessions.ā€

It’s about helping you build strength for life, moving better so you can enjoy life more.
Feeling confident in your body and what it can do, and creating habits that actually last.

This next phase is about creating a space that reflects that reflects that.

I’ll share more as it all comes together! šŸ™Œ

Watch this space! šŸ‘€

Monday Motivation Let’s go. šŸ’„

A little pep talk.

One of the ways we can lose motivation or give up on our goals, is when we focus heavily on the outcome.
But most people don’t struggle because they aren’t capable. They struggle because they’re giving up as soon as they don’t see change quickly enough.

They want:
Confidence
Energy
To feel good in their body

But they don’t anchor those things to daily actions.
So every week becomes..
ā€œI’m doing everything….why isn’t it working?ā€

That thought alone is exhausting.

Real change comes when we can shift our focus from ā€œAm I getting results yet?ā€
To:
ā€œDid I do the work today?ā€
Did I turn up ?
Did I make a better choice?
Did I keep going even though I didn’t feel like it?

Keep showing up no matter what šŸ™Œ

12/03/2026

Focus on your behaviours and the results will look after themselves.
One way to lose motivation is to constantly look for proof that things are working, weighing yourself, measuring things, comparing.

The real proof is in your habits.
Your effort
Your consistency
The times you showed up even when you didn’t feel like it.

The scale might not change this week,
But maybe you,
• trained consistently
• walked more
• lifted heavier

That’s progress
šŸ™Œ

Change rarely happens in a straight line.
It takes trial & error.
Making adjustments here and there and learning to course correct.
When we are determined we keep moving forward, even when we’re not sure if we’re on the ā€œrightā€ path.

Determination isn’t a skill you just have. It’s something you build through action.
Continuing to get up and try again time and time again.

Not perfection
Not motivation

Just the decision to keep going.

This week I’m sharing 7 days of habit coaching to your inbox to kickstart & refocus your health, mindset and habits.

I am incredibly proud of my client , we have been working together for the past 3 years, and the journey hasn’t always been straightforward.
During our time together, Julie was diagnosed with spinal stenosis and required surgery.
The road to recovery wasn’t easy and there have been a few setbacks along the way.
But we kept adapting and Julie’s determination has been testament to how strong she is now.
We focused on rebuilding strength carefully and restoring confidence in movement week by week.
Fast forward to now and she’s recently told me she’s been lifting heavy sleepers in the garden and building raised beds! šŸ’ŖšŸ’Ŗ
When we look back to where things were a year or two ago it’s a completely different picture.

Her words meant the world to me:
ā€œ You have really helped me in so many ways. I didn’t have a clue about the gym before I started my sessions with you. I have confidence in the gym now.
You supported me through rehab following my back op and also massively helped following my back injury. I wouldn’t be where I am without your coaching and support.ā€

So proud of your dedication & resilience šŸ™ŒšŸ™Œ
