Harrogate Union Team Success!
The Men’s Harrogate Union team made history yesterday being confirmed as the Yorkshire Inter District Union (Y.I.D.U) league winners for the very first time. The previous best finishing position was a runner up in 1987!
Captained by our very own Carl Peirson the team which is formed of the best players from within the Harrogate Union clubs do battle on an annual basis against teams from York, Teesside, Sheffield, Leeds, Bradford, East Riding & Halifax and Huddersfield. With Harrogate Union only having 13 teams to select players from it proves how much of an incredible effort it has taken to achieve this success.
Each team is played against once either at a home course in the Harrogate Union or an away match selected by the opposition. Going into yesterday’s match the Harrogate Union had played 6 and won 6. They sat 2 points clear of Halifax and Huddersfield who had won the league the last 2 years.
A tough away trip to Sheffield awaited for the final game and whilst the match result on the day went against the Harrogate Union losing 23-13 Teesside’s victory over Halifax and Huddersfield gave Harrogate Union that coveted first ever league win!
