JKA Orkney The object of JKA Orkney is to foster and develop the art, sport, and practice of JKA Shotokan Karate in Orkney. The word “karate” means, “Empty hand”.

The object of JKA Orkney is to foster and develop the art, sport, and practice of JKA Shotokan Karate in Orkney, to organise and regulate JKA Shotokan Karate in Orkney and unite persons or clubs wishing to learn, practice and support JKA Shotokan Karate. Karate is first and foremost a martial art this fact must always be remembered. On its simplest level karate is a method of unarmed combat, utili

sing punches, kicks, and blocks to subdue an attacker. As a student progresses locks, throws and other techniques are added. Karate-do means “The Way of the Empty Hand”.
