G Dawson Joinery Junior League and Jamboree
Tuesday 30th June saw the conclusion of events in the Orkney Junior Badminton Club calendar for 2025/26, the G. Dawson Joinery and Building Junior League Jamboree taking place at the Kirkwall Sports Centre. This event was the final spectacle to round off a fantastic season for the Junior League.
A huge thank you goes to our sponsor G. Dawson Joinery and Building, and to all the helpers who made the league events run so smoothly.
Hardly a week was has without the league being fully attended and it was great to see so many new players competing. High-quality badminton was consistently on show over the weeks with very competitive play leading to lots of movement up and down the ladder, all players working hard to improve their doubles play. For a second year, consistency of play by Murray Clark, the only player to remain in the top league every week, was duly rewarded by finishing top of the ladder and first in the overall average ranking. Topping the overall rankings for the girls was Rebecca Seator, a great achievement and a retainment of the Junior League trophy for another year.
The Jamboree event was a spectacle of doubles badminton, pairings decided by league rankings, with top and bottom seeds playing together. High scores throughout the round-robins highlighted the closeness of many matches, a trend followed in the knock-out rounds. In showing great support and encouragement to their novice counterparts, more experienced players were not only a credit to themselves and the club, but also made for a competitive yet fun evening for all.
A hard-fought final saw Rebecca Seator and Hayley Ward secure the Jamboree trophy, coming back from one set down to win over partners Daniel Copland and Scott Leonard. Bronze medals went to Murray Clark and partner Stanley Flett, the plate to Primrose Robinson and Finn Dawson.
