Orkney Judo end of year roundup 2025

Its been a great year again with continued progression and skill improvement throughout all the divisions.

We hope to start 2026 strong with trips to larger clubs to add to the learning and selflessness that makes up what a judoka is.

A huge thank you to all the parents and people behind the scenes who let us do what it is we do! Your help and support is always appreciated and never goes unnoticed.

An extra well done to the following members for outstanding displays of commitment, hard work, role model behaviour and being fantastic examples of the judo moral code within our club

2024 Orkney Judo Year roundup

It has been another exiting year for us with continued growth and development both in student and coaches alike.

- We now have a fully established junior class for ages 4-8 which is a new addition to our existing juniors of ages 8-16.

- Orkney Judo's competitive squad group also achieved success in winning medals at national competitions in Aberdeen and Inverness.

- All members of the club have advanced in gradings held throughout the year.

- In May, Coach Reanne was presented with the community coach of the year award by Judo Scotland.

- Our coaches also attended the Gathering event in Glasgow in Ocotober which was hosted by 2 time Olympic Judo Champion Shohei Ono.

- Reanne has also been taking part in the exclusive Kaizen academy through the national body JudoScotland which has been an amazing opportunity to bring world class knowledge and teaching practices to the club. This culminated in a trip to Tokyo, Japan in October 2024 with visits to some of the best Dojos in the World.

- A huge shout out to our head coach Tony O'Donnell for his continued dedication towards Orkney Judo.

- looking forward in 2025, we have a number of exciting developments on the horizon. New classes in new venues, new events and a new coach joining our coaching team with his own expertise and visions.

We would also like to say a massive thank you to the amazing businesses who sponsored us in 2024 making these events possible for our club members. Indian Garden, William Wilson and Cloustons Ltd.

Interested in starting Judo or giving it a shot? We have classes suitable from ages 4 years up to adults classes, no previous experience required. Just get in touch if you would like to know more.
