Tuesday Yoga Flow class update: until mat leave we'll be focusing on the Ashtanga Primary Series, which is set flow of asanas, many of which we do in class already. It's a great thing to practice the same sequence every time, as it give a good lense for reflection and observance. Also, while I do already demo less in the Yoga Flow class, it gives more scope for that meaning I can hopefully teach well into the summer ⭐🀞

See all you yogis and yoginis soon!

⭐ Join the final block of Chair Yoga before the class stops for the school holidays ⭐

This meditative class helps calm body and mind while also mobilising joints and stretching the body.

Its great for individuals who are interested in yoga, but who find the up and down movements from the mat challenging. It's also a wonderful form of meditative movement for any ability, and would be a fantastic lunch break class for those working in Kirkwall.

Block dates are
June 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd & 30th

Grateful for being asked to teach at the Blide Trust this year. Last year I did two sessions and this year I was lucky enough to be asked back for 8 more. Its so beautiful to see the benefit of the yoga practice before my very eyes.

Some feedback after the practice:

"I slowed down enough to focus on the good things"

"It felt like an oasis in the darkness"

"It was like a sanctuary, moving mindfully with the breath and body"

I found yoga in a time of deep darkness and prolonged self harm. It too felt like a ray of light in the dark and has, over the years, continued to help me grow that light into what feels like a constant now.

I'm so thankful to have this practice and be able to share it with others. To all that brings out our light, namaste πŸ™

There are some great asanas (poses) that theme with the moon.

In tonight's Vinyasa class we did the Chandra Namaskara, a very energising and dynamic flow. This Wednesday/Thursday is the full moon, so I thought it's be fun to carry the theme over to Thursday as well, as we also dwell on the final 5 limbs of Yoga.

Expect some crescent moons, a supine uttitha Tadasana, and maybe a balasana. I've toyed with exploring how to make a crescent lunge restorative, so bare with me, I may include it as well!

See you on the mat 🌝 🧘 🌝

We did a modified version of the Ashtanga Primary Sequence in the Tuesday Yoga Flow class tonight, as we're finally off the Yamas and Niyamas and onto the 3rd limb of yoga: Asana (posture).

As you all found, it can be a very intense practice! Wonderful work on the mat giving it your all everyone.

When you're practing Ashtanga you often do it every morning or as many mornings as you can do a week. It's about an hour and a half sequence and it's the same everytime. The repetition is intentional. The practice becomes a mirror for the fluctuations of your mind and body over time, same practice each time, different experiences. It allows you to reflect on these perterbations, which it is the purpose of the practice of Yoga to exist within and steady one's self amongst.

As Patanjali writes in his Yoga Sutras (est written between 500bce and 400ce), Yoga is Chitta Vrtti Nirodaha... Stilling the perterbations/fluctuations of the mind. And it's this 8 Limbed approach that Patanjali outlines as the path to experience this. Asana, posture, is just one of the limbs and it's so important as yogis & yoginis that when we practice (on the mat or off) we also honor the others.

We have 4 more limbs to explore in one more session, so head over to www.picktime.com/sarasanayoga if you're interested in exploring them next week.
