Everyone at the club was saddened to hear of the passing of Charlie Oliver this week. A great club stalwart over the last 40 years.
Charlie was a passionate sport fans and a lifelong Motherwell FC supporter. However, his sporting loyalties were broadened when both of his sons, Fraser & Stuart took up rugby. Before long, Charlieโs interest in the sport grew into something much more than simply following his boys from the touchline.
He became a much-loved and familiar figure around the club, becoming heavily involved in hospitality, sponsorship and the Blues Club.
Charlie had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome. With his quick wit, charm and natural gift for conversation, he could engage sponsors, supporters and visitors alike, building relationships that went far beyond the rugby pitch.
Through his tireless efforts and his ability to bring people together, Charlie helped raise thousands of pounds for the club. He was a true ambassador, always ready with a smile, a story and a warm welcome. For countless people arriving at the club, seeing Charlie was part of what made the experience special.
His contribution was about much more than fundraising. Charlie genuinely cared about people and about the club. He enjoyed being involved, enjoyed the company and took great pride in playing his part. His humour, generosity and personality left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Dedicated to the memory of Charles Oliver
