Over the past few months we have created a Kirkcaldy Rugby Development Team with the purpose of providing introductory sessions for school pupils in the Kirkcaldy catchment area. In previous years, the rugby club relied heavily on the Development Officer, however this season we have taken a slightly different approach, with the Development Officer focussing on the 23 primary schools in our catchment area, and the Community Coaches and Director of Rugby focussing on the High Schools.
The team have delivered sessions to P4&5 pupils in the BalwearieHS and KirkcaldyHS clusters, and this term they will focus on this same age group in the ViewforthHS and StAndrewsHS clusters. Post Christmas, focus will change to P6&P7.
Sessions are being delivered in BalwearieHS via School of Rugby sessions for S1-S5, and this year we are delivering rugby session to all S1 and S2 pupils at KirkcaldyHS during core PE, as well as running School of Rugby for S1-S3 pupils. We are in talks with ViewforthHS and StAndrewsHS with the hope of delivering School of Rugby sessions in these schools in the near future.
The team are working hard to grow the game and looking to introduce new players to the sport, with the intention of growing rugby in the schools and ultimately the club. If you are interested, please reach out to the Active Schools coordinators, or email [email protected]
