Thank You Nigel Moss and Sedbergh School for putting on a great session today. when everyone else had cancelled due to waterlogged roads (let alone pitches) we had 40 girls meet up and practice some rugby.

The Tigers met up with Upper Eden girls and a some girls from the School to see if we could help grow the game and links.

Congratulations to the following U18 girls who have all developed in the Tigers system and were selected to represent Cumbria Rugby Union against Northumberland and Durham on Sunday.

All the girls gave a good account of themselves in wet conditions showing good skill sets and determination in defence against powerful opponents.

Friendly Tigers vs Lancashire Roses with some Penrith RUFC

What a fantastic game of rugby played between to barbarian teams. We both pull in players from many clubs to get the girls playing opportunities.

The u14s and u16s were to play at Garstang RUFC , and with British weather we switched to Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Union Football Club (thank you)

I didnt get to see the U14s game, so this is the u16s write up.

The teams haven't played each other before and it was a great opportunity for both sides to get some valuable game time.

With both sides being short of players (injuries, illness and school trips to Germany), and crappy weather, it wasn't looking like it would be great day of Rugby.

How wrong was that view. Both squads had exceptional players, drawing players from both Cumbria and Lancashire PDG squads, and both teams just wanted to play rugby.

There was a runaway start from the Tigers getting 21-0 ahead thanks, in part to Megan's brilliant conversions.

However, would you write off the Lancs Roses? They hadn't, and eventually got their first try.

A late arrival and a switch of a player from Tigers to LRs balance the numbers soon pushed both teams forward to a more active period getting muddy. Both teams worked hard to tackle, hard to ruck and hard to counter.

There wasn't any complaints and big hugs afterwards as PDG players greeted eachother with smiles and stories.

obligatory Group photo afterwards was difficult to tell the teams apart.

Thanks to all coaches, club officials and volunteers, parents (taxi drivers) for making games like this possible.

On this weekend’s Saturday Sport Show on Beyond Radio, Ross will be speaking to one of the local area’s young rugby league prodigies, Ava Heath, who has just begun a two year contract at Wigan Warriors’ academy.

Formerly of Vale of Lune Rugby Union Club and Heysham Atoms, Ava has had a remarkable rise in the sport and will be joined in the studio on Saturday by her mum Jo.
