has to offer, we have all sorts of packages and trips available for every ability of boater. Liam has been paddling in Scotland for the last 8 years and found his true passion in White water canoeing. Since first moving up to the highlands in 2012 Liam has found a joy in all variety of white water and touring boats but the canoe in all its beautiful varieties has become his go to boat. The canoe in all its beautiful forms is such an incredible versatile tool for making the most of what Scotland has to offer whether its multi day trips connecting lochs, paddling at sea or running some of the best white water in the UK these boats can do it all! The abundance of rivers supplied from damns and rain all year round gives us a never ending supply of exciting trips to go on. Why OC1 and who is it for?: These boats are incredible fun to paddle in anything from grade 1 all the way up to grade 5 white water. If you are a white water kayaker looking to refine your skills on the water or you want to make those local runs a bit more exciting these boats will really capture your interest. When it comes to taking technical lines and really styling it, the white water canoe is less forgiving then the kayak so be prepared to find those easy moves suddenly more challenging but oh so much more satisfying. If you are a traditional canoer looking to find a way to paddle those rivers you can’t get the big boat down or don’t want to risk it these boats are an excellent way to carry on your one blade skills and keep to your canoeing heritage! Although these boats probably share more in common with white water kayaking the thought process towards line choice on rapids and the need for cross deck or switching hands are extremely useful, transferable skills from tradition open canoe boating. You may not have never boated before in which case this will be a totally new and exciting experience for you! At Green Wave we have have a selection of Oc1 boats for people to give a go and find what you enjoy(in the new year Oc2 will be available). All our boats have changeable foot pegs and additional foam available to help make our boats adaptable to most people. A little bit about OC1: Oc1 boating or Open canoe 1, has been around for a while now particularly in the USA it has a huge following. This type of boating has stemmed simply from people wanting to canoe harder and more technical white water. Over the years canoes have steadily been made smaller and out of more durable materials to give them the manoeuvrability and strength to cope with the demands of hard white water. Instead of hooking heels under bits of wood and filling up with vast amounts of water, boats were fitted with much bigger airbags and a saddle either made of plastic or foam with boaters opting to either strap themselves in or wedge there thighs under foam bulkheads. Classic Boat designs such as the Ocoee, Prelude, Zoom, Pocket canyon still have many similarities to their big brothers in the trad world but as time has gone on new white water canoes draw more and more in common with white water kayaks. Soon after river running style boats like the Spanish fly (one of the best oc1 boats out there) and creek boats like Esquif L’edge, Blackfly option built up a good following with comfortable stable planning hulls. Right now the sport is experiencing a boom here in the UK partly thanks to new and beautiful innovations in boat design from the likes of Silverbirch. Offering up boats like the Covert 9.3, Covert 10.5 & Agent 88 in a wide variety of customizable colours and fantastic performance. As well as help provide guiding and trips we want to be able to share and post about your 1 Blade adventures to spread the 1 blade love and help grow the sport! So get in touch if you have any ideas or awesome footage that we can share on the page! We can’t wait to hear from you and help you organise your next trip ! Until then Happy boating people!
