Stragglers Structured Training Group

Stragglers Structured Training Group Structured Training Group (STG) The Structured Training Group (STG) is a group within the Stragglers Running Club.

By joining the group it gives you access to training guidance, training programmes and groups to train with who have similar goals. Whether your aim is to improve your parkrun time or to prepare for a chosen 10k, half marathon or even a marathon, help, support and guidance is available from the club's coaches and leaders. There is no expectation to meet at every session but you will need a desire

to want to work hard ! Aims and Objectives -
1) We meet 3 times a week with coaches in attendance at least 90% of the time;
2) We have time trials to show progress;
3) We will aim to have specific groups training for specific events - eg London Marathon;
4)We target specific races in the UK with plans to race in Europe;
5) We also enjoy ourselves and arrange social events !

We're are delighted to announce this year our U23 racers will have a cash incentive courtesy of the page ‘I Was, Or Am A Runner’

Prize money for U23 athletes (full British Passport holders) totalling £1,500 will be up for grabs as follows:

£300 awarded to the fastest British Male & Female U23 athletes on the night (times can be achieved from any race)

£200 awarded to the British Male & Female if their time is quicker than the fastest 2017 British U23 time (Men 29:00.49 / Women 32:59.52)

£250 awarded to the British Male & Female if they break the British U23 record (Dave Bedford 27:47.00 / Liz McColgan 31:41.42)

A spokesperson for IWOAAR said "We're delighted to support future stars of British distance running by rewarding great performances by U23 runners at an event which continues to do so much to promote distance running in the UK. We look forward to some great running from the stars of tomorrow!"

Race founder Ben Pochee said “I’m over the moon to partner with this generous fiscal carrot from the ‘I Was, Or Am A Runner’ team, my goal is raising the profile of 25 lap racing and creating more 10,000m chat, gossip & banter - this prize fund will certainly help and no doubt create an extra competitive frisson amongst our next generation of world beaters. I hope yet more people can join us on May 19th at Parli Hill to see who wins the battle to claim the folding stuff”

Last Thursday Coach Best pushed ten STG runners to a place they have only occasionally visited in the past - and I am not talking Riverside Drive! A warm-up run of one-and-a-half miles followed by 6x600m intervals and a warm-down run tested even the most experienced of the group...

Word on the street is that Luis is back on the gear? How else could he do a 10k PB two weeks ago then knock ten minutes off his PB at the EDP Lisbon Half-Marathon last week? Hi All, Top session Thursday night on the "hill", big ask of 14 hardy souls to complete 4 sets of 4x 20 30's off 60sec recovery between sets and a jog down recovery between efforts. But all managed well and most impressed with their ability to sustain the effort through. Big well done to all and this is the type of session you remember when you need that extra push in the last few minutes of a sustained effort Parkrun, when your body is screaming for you to slow down and your mind is saying not yet we are stronger than that, so stop complaining and relax and let me worry about the pain. "Tell yourself you can and you will, ask yourself and it's not that easy!" Kev.
