It is with great sadness that we share the news our former chairman Jim West died recently at the age of 93.

Our current chairman, Doug Jennings, shared the following message with club members.

“Jim was a longstanding member of our club and was Chairman for numerous years until he was forced to resign in 2015 through ill health.

He loved the club and was so enthusiastic about all its activities, on and off court. He was part of a group in the 1970s and 80s that renovated a run down CLTC by adding the bar and kitchen extensions, new courts and lights on 5, 6 & 7, changing courts 1 & 2 from shale to tarmac and adding new courts (now 3 & 4 and 8 & 9) all largely financed by fund raising events that he so passionately organised.

He was very keen to see that the teams we fielded in all competitions performed at their best, encouraged them and celebrated their success. Paul tells me that he believes Jim took credit for the team winning the Yorkshire league in 2004 by offering them a holiday in Florida! He made Chairman’s Cup day a very special event.

I’ll remember him as a very gracious man, friendly to all, and very kind to me when I joined the committee. I’ve passed on my condolences to the West family.”
